About this listen

Daniel barely remembers leading a normal life before the Nazis came to power in 1933. He can still picture once being happy and safe, but memories of those days are fading as he and his family face the dangers threatening Jews in Hitler's Germany in the late 1930's. No longer able to practice their religion, vote, own property, or even work, Daniel's family is forced from their home in Frankfurt and sent on a long and dangerous journey, first to the Lodz ghetto in Poland, and then to Auschwitz - the Nazi death camp. Though many around him lose hope in the face of such terror, Daniel, supported by his courageous family, struggles for survival. He finds hope, life and even love in the midst of despair. Although Daniel is a fictitious character, his story was inspired by the real experiences of many of the more than one million children who died in the Holocaust. Daniel's Story was published in conjunction with an exhibit called "Daniel's Story: Remember the Children" at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Great family listening for grades 4-8 and up.

How do you say a book about the holocaust is good? For a holocaust book this is a great story and the reader makes it come alive. I hope we never forget.

What a vivid picture of a time when human beings allowed themselves to become sub-human.

I will never forget, what happened to millions of brothers and sisters. Daniel Gold does a great job in narrating this story.

Wonderfully produced

We should all strive to eliminate prejudice. Even though this is fiction, it said the book was based on true events from survivors. So sad, heart breaking, and moving.

Wonderful book!

Beautiful, touching story from a child’s point of view in the Natzi Jewish camps- arrival, suffrage, torture then for some- finally freedom. Forever in my heart!

I purchased this book after visiting the Holocaust museum in Washington DC. It's tear-jerking to walk through his house and learn what happened to him based on the artifacts. The book mirrored the museum but added more details. I don't know why this book only has 36 reviews. It was well written and beautifully read. I highly recommend it.

A MUST READ!!!!!

My heart broke for this family and for all of the Jewish people that suffered so much. Shame on the German people for allowing this level of evil to go on.

Better than fiction. Heartbreaking.

A must read!
The last 5 minutes is everything! A very heart wrenching, but heavy read. I liked this book because it wasn’t hours and hours. An easy start to finish but very good. Don’t sleep on the shorter books.
