About this listen

Artificer General Sebastian Nemo has faced myriad dangers while serving his king and kingdom, but none so fascinating and sinister as the Convergence of Cyriss.

In the wake of an unprovoked attack on the Cygnaran town of Calbeck, Nemo and his forces hasten to confront the strange clockwork soldiers and machinery led by a young warcaster prodigy named Aurora, Numen of Aerogenesis. Nemo soon learns of the Convergence’s plans to transform Caen and its people to suit their enigmatic goddess, who favors machines over the living.

Amid this clash Nemo must withstand the temptation of the Convergence’s message to those who, like himself, are fascinated by technology. Aurora proves to be a different sort of enemy than he has faced before - something of a kindred spirit, albeit one bent on destroying all he holds dear.

you have to be a cygnar/cyriss fan

If you dont care about these characters before you get this book the writing wont help. highly recommend Into The Storm though. that one if simple fantastic.

A great read.

I play Convergence so the book gave me a real insight into Aurora as well the whole faction.

The narrator did a good job and the story is solid.

Better than the Butcher

Any additional comments?

Not a bad book, though far from great. It was an acceptable foray into the world of the Warmachine miniatures game/Iron Kingdoms role-playing game. It was certainly a far better story than the horrid "The Warcaster Chronicles: The Butcher of Khardov" book which was a mess (and I reviewed on Amazon.com). I really hadn't read much about either Cygnar and Nemo or the Convergence of Cyriss. It sounded like this took place after "The Devil's Pay: Dogs of War, Vol. One", which is also available from Audible.

Scott Baker's pronunciation of some words was odd, for example he would say "lonce" instead of "lance", but other than that his performance was good.

It would be nice if these shared-world novels, novellas, and short story collections were linked so one could see which ones were available. I do plan on picking up more of the Iron Kingdoms books in the future, probably beginning with "The Devil's Pay".

Sorry

This story is like 20 saltines without the salt or any water. Maybe it's the faction. Really wished a more interesting story with Nemo.

fine store laid low by a flat performance

if your in the fandom you'll want to expand the lore and you'll be here anyway, but not the best place to jump into the iron kingdoms. gotta wonder some times what a quality voice actor/tris cost for these shorter books so I could figure out why they never spring for one

Had high hopes, but was left unsatisfied.

As a very dedicated Convergence player I was excited to know that there was a novel centered around the Convergence.

While listening I was left with a lackluster feeling. I felt that the writing was more juvenile then I anticipated. The scene where Aurora was nude in front of some of the Optifex wasn’t necessary and some of her dialogue was not quite how I’d imagine a high ranking official of the Convergence to respond.

It was worth it to listen once but not something I’d listen to again and again.

Great story, shoddy narrator.

Dave Gross has written a compelling story with great characters. Unfortunately, Steve Baker is a weak narrator. His reading is slow and monotonous, and he mispronounces several words, not just names and other pronouns. For instance, all but once, he says "articifer" instead of "artificer". He also drops voices many times, reading Nemo with a gruff low voice most of the time, but then reverting to normal narration for several pieces of dialogue. Listen at your own risk.

great story

one of the best ik stories yet. the glimpse into nemos back story and the development of the cyrisists is a great world building plot line.

Stupid people!

Why!? Stupid people, stupid decisions, illogical battles! Things happen just because it needs to be so in the end. Awful battle that just happens because it's a war game. Old farts run faster in full armor than winged uber beings can fly. Main objective totally unguarded and open. F U!
