About this listen

Charlotte couldn't escape...from the prison Raymond put her in or from the dark love she found with him. Especially when she realized that the darkness was inside her too...

Charlotte:

I ran away from my crap life of stripping and living with my father in a trash heap of a trailer.

I thought I was headed toward freedom but I woke up in another prison.

A prison that was built just for me.

He knows things about me that no one should.

He sees things in me that I can't see.

I don't want to be here.

But I don't want to leave him either.

He's a monster for keeping me prisoner.

But I'm a monster, too, for loving the dark, dirty things he does to me.

Raymond:

I know I messed up.

I've been alone in this house for far too long.

Alone except the servants that skulk around in the darkness.

But then I found Charlotte and I had to have her.

I had to take her.

I have to make her mine.

Now I don't want to live without her.

But if I can't convince her to stay...they won't let either one of us live.

Dark Love is a dark romance that contains dark sexual themes and is 40k words in length. It's the first part of a two-part series.

Interesting listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

Raymond. He knows that he hasn't been a good person and has done some very bad and messed up things, but he's trying to change and make amends, at least with Charlotte.

Have you listened to any of Logan McAllister and Lacy Laurel ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to both narrators and they were excellent as always.

Any additional comments?

Definitely dark and probably not for everyone, but I really enjoyed listening to this story. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Dark and Twisted!!

Charlotte’s mom passed away during childbirth and her father has never forgiven her. She works as a stripped at a dumpy bar partly because of her love of dance and she feels her body is not attractive enough to garner any serious dancing jobs. After the most recent abuse by her father Charlotte decides she going to save her money and leave.

Raymond was raised by his now deceased disturbed mother in a mansion filled with secrets. From the moment he saw Charlotte he had to have her and he arranges her abduction to his home. Will Raymond be able to convince Charlotte to stay and what are all the secrets that the house holds? This is a dark romance that draws you in and although it ends on a cliffhanger.

The narrators did a great job at adjusting their voices so that you knew exact who was speaking.

Dark? Twisted? Hot? Yes, yes, yes!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I always enjoy reading and listening to books. This one, albeit short, was worth every minute. I would liked to have had more background, but I'm guessing that comes as the series progresses.

If you’ve listened to books by JB Duvane before, how does this one compare?

I have not listened to anything by JB Duvane prior to this book.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the scene when they are real with each other. When the barriers are down for just a brief moment.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

MORE! I needed so much more! I wanted more background on each character so I could understand why they did the things they did.

WOW! Excellent story - Very creative and intriguing

This Audible Book, had me hooked from the beginning. The narrators were excellent and I could easily follow along and only found myself rewinding to listen to the freaky physiological mind blowing situations.
JB Duvane is clearly an imaginative writer and I can't wait for Dark Love Book Two. The characters each have challenging pasts and for some reason, I am completely rooting for Charlotte and Raymond. Can't wait for the rest of the story!

Loved the Book, Audio Lacked

Would you consider the audio edition of Dark Love: Part One to be better than the print version?

To be honest I felt the print version to be way better. This book is very dark and very good. But the audio version I didn't get the true feeling of what this book is. For one thing I didn't like the voice of the women. I also felt that the emotion was kind of dry and in the beginning I felt like I was listening to a children's book. When reading I felt the emotion was stronger. I visualized it more too.

What other book might you compare Dark Love: Part One to and why?

So far i haven't found another book as dark or that has so many aspects to it as this one. I mean there are many books that have the kidnapping and the sex, but none have that dark mystery as well. I don't think there is another book like that.

What about Logan McAllister and Lacy Laurel ’s performance did you like?

They pronounced the words correctly and you could understand them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Towards the end of the book when Charotte leaves to return to check on her father and Raymond has to let her go even though he doesn't want to. I felt the emotion was crushing there.

Any additional comments?

This is such a good book, I just felt the audio version really didn't grab me and show me that true emotion that happens throughout the book. JB is such a good writer and I felt the narrators didn't bring out just how good this book is.

I liked the story!!

I liked the story, but found that the readers made it difficult to listen to. I hate to say that because I know it's difficult, but I didn't feel the emotion or any connection between the two of them.

I really liked the story.. and with different readers I'd listen, but will read them rather than listen if the same are performing the others.

ABSOLUTELY, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

This was so Beauty and the Beast. From the imprisonment - to seeing past their masks - then the faith in release - and the last petal dropping... here it was the last stroke of midnight.
I loved it. Some say it was very dark. I don’t see that at all. The theme is dark, but the actual story only implied the darkest parts. The story is very deep for under 5 hours and IMO, worth the listen.

What should have/could have been better established up front is the unusual arrangement between the servants and Raymond. Generations past, their family’s roles were reversed. By blood contract, it cannot be set right until Raymond, the last of his bloodline, naturally dies. Raised isolated from the world by a psychotic mother who later made him her lover (implied). After she dies, Raymond has no desire to replace her with another woman. That is, until he sees Charlotte hiding herself in dance. You'll need to listen to the rest.

TWO THUMBS UP!!

Great dark read, narration not so much

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator.

Now I have been dying to read a JB Duvane book for a while. I know her books hold all the things I love about dark romance. I couldn't wait to try the audio version. I have to admit I did not finish this audiobook. I did not finish it because while the story was very intriguing and definitely made me want to "read" more, I could not listen anymore.

The narration does not fit the setting of this book. It was hard to follow along with Lacy Laurel narrating and her male voice was not good to me at all. I had no issues with Logan McAllister and thought he did a good job.

I definitely will have to go back and read this book from the beginning to get the full effect of this book.

Dark and a little creepy

Slow in the beginning, Dark Love is proving to be an interesting listen. I always find the intricate workings of JB Duvane completely intriguing, and this one does not disappoint. Charlotte comes with a difficult past and wants to shelter herself from everyone through her dancing. Raymond, growing up with a mentally unstable mother and an unhealthy attachment to her is trying to find his way out of his situation.Throw in the crazy staff that lives in Raymond's house and the alpha tendencies he has and you have part one of this book. There is enough build up and entertainment to leave you wanting to hear part two of this book, and see where the two characters end up.

Logan McAllister and Lacy Laurel portray this cast of characters well. They have you believing the craziness and unwarranted attraction between Charlotte and Raymond. Let's hope part 2 comes soon!
