About this listen

A small mountain town hides a dark secret....

When his father's death brings Grant Shipman to the Appalachian town of Wallen's Gap, he believes his biggest problem will be dealing with the slow pace and odd townsfolk. But something sinister is at work. A dark power rises, an echo of the town's bloody past. A book of blood magic offers an unspeakable horror a gateway into the world of the living, and only Grant stands in the way of their "Dark Rite."

Great, freaky story

This was a very good but freaky short story. Very enjoyable and well written, definitely worth reading and listening too. I highly recommend it. Waters does a great job bringing the character to life and making them spooky.

pretty good story

I liked this dark demon worshipping story. The ending felt a bit rushed though. But all in all it was a good story.

Vamp This!

Has all the good stuff... vampires, fortune tellers, bad boys, occult, young love - Narration was great too. Love when they create multiple voices for the characters.

Fantastic dark story

This is the second book I’ve read by the combo of Alan Baxter and David Wood. Neither of the books have disappointed. It’s the fourth I’ve read by Alan Baxter and he is quickly growing into a favorite author. I love stories about creepy cults and their machinations of establishing a new world order. Funnily enough those great plans never turn out the way they planned. This book is filled with deep dark magic from the depths of the Appalachian hills with all the backwoods charm that comes with it. I love this short quick read. If you like stories about crazy cults trying to do crazy things this book is for you. Extremely well written as is always the case with these two guys. The narration by Jonathan Waters is fantastic. It’s such a great tight thrill ride. Enjoy a lazy afternoon and give it a listen.

Demon in the Mix

The storyline is well written and developed. I loved the characters and their authenticity. The twist and turns in the story are intriguing especially the one with the old witch they kept me on the edge of my seat. The only problems with the book are the narrator and the narration editing. Despite that issue I would highly recommend this book.

Good book but audio needs some editing

I loved the story but the audio should have been edited first. there were a lot of starts and stops and repeating of sentences. Theres also some really long dead air spots between chapters. The story was really good though!

It gave me chills!💜

Fantastic story. Plenty of mystery, murder & suspense. The creepy factor was pretty high as well, it made me shudder a few times.
Let’s talk narration, first the bad news then I’ll get to the good stuff.
There were a lot of repeated sentences and phrases throughout the book almost as if it was recorded but he forgot to go back for pick ups. (Correcting errors etc)
Okay now the good news. Jonathan Waters has a fantastic voice. He absolutely nailed each of these characters and their unique accents. He’s also very good with female voices. I’ve recently began listening to Jonathan and found him to be one of my all time favorite narrators. He has a great story telling voice that I could listen to all day. This book was done about 8 years ago when he was still pretty new. I encourage everyone that when reviewing a book whether listening or reading to be sure to take into account how old the book is or how new the author and/or narrators are before you decide to give up on them.
I recommend this book.

Technical Difficulties

While the performance was good, the legion of technical difficulties (at least one per chapter) made it difficult to enjoy...
