About this listen

Rafael De La Cruz has spent centuries hunting vampires with his brothers. With each passing year, his capacity to feel emotions has grown weaker and weaker, until finally there's barely a memory of one left - only sheer willpower keeps him from turning into the very abomination he hunts. But it'll take more than will to keep him away from the woman who is meant to be his and his alone.

For five years, rancher Colby Jansen has been the sole protector of her younger half-siblings, and with fierce determination and work she has kept her family together and the ranch operational. Now, the De La Cruz brothers are threatening that stability. They claim that her siblings belong with their father's family, not with her. Colby vows to fight them - especially the cold and arrogant Rafael De La Cruz. But Rafael is after more than her family; he wants Colby, and will not let anything stand between them. After ages of loneliness, the raw desire to possess her overwhelms his very soul, driving him to claim her as his lifemate.

loved this book

I must say this was a wonderful surprise. I loved the suspense in this book I couldn't put it down I found myself at my desk at work not being able to stop this book from playing while working it made my day go very fast indeed, If you enjoy fantasy and romance with a twist you will enjoy this book, the twist of vampires was fun and it kept this book very interesting although it was nice to have a good love story, I would not recommend this book if you don't like vampire books because this is one yet the love story is really good I think I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

love this series

This series is out of my ordinary listening interest, but I just love the audio books from Feehan's "Dark" series that have been made available so far. Richard Ferrone is wonderful and I'll check out other audio books that he's read - he really does a great job. I also appreciate that these audio book versions are unabridged.

Love this book

I love this book, but the narrator for this story reads it too slow for me. I love the characters though, and I enjoyed learning more about the Carpathian characters Feehan writes about.

A true carpathian tale

This is one of my favorites of the dark series. The characters are wonderful, the story flows with vivid details, and the action will keep you listening. The narrative sucks at women voices, as many men do, and he makes a lot of grunts and sighs during the story that is a bit annoying. But he's better than a lot of the narrators and his voice is fairly calming. I guess he just doesn't have what Phil Gigante does, and a woman's voice should be done by a woman. I love the newer books with 2 narrators, especially the most recent dark books. You will still enjoy this book and maybe someday they will re-record it with the great performers I have come to appreciate the last year.

Great story!

A couple of new characters and some really good tie-ins between the ancient Carpathian clans. The narration is pretty good too. For a man with a low timbre, he did a decent job with the female voices. Carpathian ancient Raphael may be named for an archangel, but he's a bossy devil, he is! As usual, those randy Carpathians are all about their overly-detailed sex scenes. Fortunately, the story and new characters are fresh enough to overcome even that!

Dark Series - Dark Secret...AWESOME

What did you love best about Dark Secret?

Christine Feehan has done it again! She grips you from the first few sentences, and keeps you enthralled until the last word. You really can envision the characters, the battles they face, and the passion they exude. You won't be disappointed by this amazing author.

What other book might you compare Dark Secret to and why?

Any other book in the Dark Series. Feehan matches warrior with life mates every single time, and never in a cheesy way, but always with a great ending.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He provides great inflections and intonations.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, we women are stubborn and know how to push buttons. I love to hear the men get exasperated and come up with a funny retort.

Story was good

Like the story. But could have used someone performing, that could alter their voice a little. So that you could tell when someone else started speaking in the book.

Great Story- Bad Narrator

Great Book, If you love the Carpathian Novels, then you'll agree with me that this is a great one. I have listened to a lot of the Carpathian novels, through Audible.... This is the first one that I listened to with a male narrator... I didn't think I would mind... But UGH!!! The guy is terrible... Serioulsy AUDIBLE!! Get a BETTER Narrator... PLEASE!!

Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed each book of this series. Richard Ferrone did a wonderful job telling this story. Will be looking for other books where Richard is the narrator.
