About this listen

Freak. Witch. Crazy. Schizo. Ember Brycin has been called them all. She's always known she's different. No one has ever called her normal, even under the best circumstances. Bizarre and inexplicable things continually happen to her, and having two different colored eyes, strange hair, and an unusual tattoo only contributes to the gossip about her. When the latest school explosion lands her in a facility for trouble teens, she meets Eli Dragen, who's hot as hell and darkly mysterious. Their connection is full of passion, danger, and secrets.

Secrets that will not only change her life, but what and who she is, leading her down a path she never imagined possible. Between Light and Dark, Ember finds a world where truth and knowledge are power and no one can be trusted. But her survival depends on finding out the truth about herself. In her pursuit, she is forced between love and destiny and good and evil, even when the differences between them aren't always clear. At worst, she will incite a war that could destroy both worlds. At best, she will not only lose her heart but her life and everyone she loves. Once the truth is out, however, there will be no going back. And she'll definitely wish she could.

Interesting enough but the narrator ruins it

I think I'd like the story but I couldn't even pay attention to it because the narrator is trying so hard to sound sultry the entire time. It's extremely annoying. Every word out of her mouth sounds like she's a phone sex operator.

Interesting start

This was a good book, interesting storyline, but I will say it felt like it took a long time to get to the most important part. I like Ember but at times she was so weak in her resolve. Just when I thought that she was going to make a smart decision that quickly she buckled under and did the opposite. I like Eli but at the same time he was a jerk. I was glad to see that a special person in her life (dreams) was loyal to her in the end. I am excited to see what is next and hoping that Eli becomes the hero I want him to become.

Stacey Marie Brown should have fired this narrator

I loved the Collector series which coincides with this series so I was excited to start it despite all the reviews saying Eli is a giant dick and the narrator sounds like a phone sex operator.

The story was good, a bit slow at the start, but I survived. However, the narrator was horrible. She does sound breathy like she's having sex over the phone. She did change her inflections from narration to a character speaking, but she didn't even try to change the tone of her voice. Despite everything, I hope the narrator reads these reviews and changes the way she narrates books because several people will never know the complete awesomeness that is Stacey Marie Brown all because of the performance. I'll be continuing the series regardless because I'm dying to see how this series and the Collector series ties together.

Excellent with the exception of the narrator!

I've already read the series but wanted to listen to it this time. Love the series with the exception of the tiny stupid love triangle she tried to throw in there but there is really no one but Eli for her. Torin was, in my opinion just thrown in there to add lines to the paper and he sounded really creepy in the beginning. Just gives me the shivers thinking about it. But, author started softening him up a bit but I still dont like him, this coming from a reader that hates with a passion love triangles!!! Love the banter between Eli and Ember. Their chemistry is off the charts!!

meh.

I wanted to like this book... but I can't. The MC is oblivious and self centered. There is no character building. No real substance. I'm curious if things flush out in book 2, but the narration is so breathy that I don't think I can listen to any more of it. I really struggled to get though this one.

A great beginning to the series!

This was my first book by Stacey Marie Brown and it certainly won't be my last! I devoured listening to this book along with the rest of the series. We meet the main characters in this book that set-up the overall story throughout the rest of the books. Everything from the characters, to their back stories, to the unfolding story before the main character Ember is just great. It draws you in and makes you want to keep going. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Great NA Paranormal Romance

Stacey Marie Brown has quickly become one of my go-to NA paranormal romance authors. Darkness of Light is a little less gritty than her Collector series, but great none-the-less.

enjoyable/decent

the story line was a bit slow and repetitive at first, but it still held my attention. the narrator was decent, easy to follow and understand. overall I enjoyed the book, and would listen/read it again.

A welcomed surprise & enjoyment

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book but high ratings from others suggested the writing and story would be good. While the first chapters were a little slow for me, it picked up steam and it was a pleasant surprise to me how much I did enjoy the Audible version. Ember is an 18 yo young woman trying to finish HS but unusual things happen around her. She is sent to an 'alternative' school to finish the last couple of months of school and there she meets Eli. Everything that seems to happen to her revolves around him in one way or another. Added to that is her realistic dreams where she meets Toren but she's convinced that isn't real. It isn't until the end of the story that Ember learns the truth about who and what everyone around her are and what she is. So much story material can't be contained in one book. A cliffhanger ending but I will definitely be reading the next book. Don't be skeptical, this is a very enjoyable book.
