About this listen

The D’Argents. It all began with a woman...too.

Medieval Normandy. Before William the Conqueror conquered, there was the family D’Argent. And a marriage alliance destined to give rise to England’s formidable Wulfriths.

Behold the victor.

The day Godfroi D’Argent defeats his brother in a contest of arms, he gains his family’s lands. And a less than desirable bride. Certain it will be years before his enemy’s daughter grows into a lady of worth, he devotes himself to securing his lordship. When at last Robine assumes her rightful place, Godfroi is unprepared for how much she moves him. Counting it weakness, he refuses to acknowledge the depth of his feelings even to himself - until he falls in battle. With little hope of restoring the warrior, he allows Robine and their young sons to believe him dead. But when the mysterious hermit who pulled him from the battlefield persuades him to return home, it is not to a wife with open arms but one entangled in sin. Is it true only three are needed to salvage a marriage - husband, wife, and God? And what is to be done with proof of Robine’s indiscretion?

Beware the she-bear.

Just as Robine’s husband rejects her on their wedding night, so too her love. When she becomes his wife in truth and he withholds his heart, she determines to cease loving him. But what proves impossible becomes irrelevant when he is slain. Painfully aware once her period of mourning ends she must provide her sons a protector, she undertakes a journey to her family and is set upon by brigands. In the midst of fiercely defending her children, a chevalier rides to her aid and proves a worthy suitor. When Robine’s uncertainty over wedding her betrothed leads to a fall from grace, there is no going back - unless Godfroi returns from the dead. Can she forgive her husband for allowing her to believe he perished? Can he forgive his wife for a sin soon apparent to all? And what of granting the innocent grace?

Dauntless

I have waited what seems like forever, though I'm sure it wasn't really, but there aren't words to describe the depth of emotion within this book! It is actually a look back to the parents and grandparents of Seer, his brothers and his sister. Now I feel I must go back and listen to books 1-7 of this series to cement in place all of the characters and their lives. Mary Sarah Agility brings much feeling and magic with her narration. Her narration style was different from those I had previously favored, but as I continued to listen, it became clear to me that she was the perfect choice for narrator. This one brought me to tears even more than the others, so intense were the characters. You definitely shouldn't miss this series, but be sure to have plenty of tissues handy and be ready to hide from your family if they don't understand the great connection between these characters and yourself. This is really much more than a 5 Star rating, but that's all that is allowed. 😍❤😍❤

What a conclusion to this series!

I must confess I had a hard time liking Godfroi at the beginning of this book… but the message of forgiveness was strong and I was in tears by the end! The statement of the marriage needing three… God, the husband, and the wife… had been said in previous books but it was good to hear what had transpired to make that such a powerful statement!
Once again, Mary Sarah Agliotta, brought to life these characters and made them seem flesh and blood. She is an incredible narrator!

The very best!

Of all the books Tamara Leigh has published, this one has become a favorite. The tale of Godfroi and Robine was not one that I was particularly interested in, but the deep reaches into grace and forgiveness as their story unfolds has captured my heart. Excellent narration by Mary Sarah Agliotta (as usual) with so much feeling and emotion, ensuring this book will be listened to more than once!

Beautiful story

Loved this story. Unfortunately, as with most Tamara Leigh books, Mary Sarah's bizarre sing-song narration detracted gravely from the comprehensibility of the story. Her narration is always a negative in Ms. Leigh's wonderful stories, but it seemed more dramatized and pronounced in this book than some others - including a strange lisp she adopted that I haven't noticed before, where she turned final T's and D's into TH's, perhaps to further the French accent the whole book is read in?
It's such a wonderful book and I'm so distressed by the style this narrator has chosen for all of these books. I ended up reading the last 80% of it from the Kindle version because I could no longer listen.
It is a wonderful story and I'm so glad to have this piece of the D'Argent/Wulfrith history.

Love & humility are the most important

This is now my favorite book out of all the the Wulfrith family books. I’ve read them all possibly I have missed a few, I can only hope. This book shows real marriage in all its difficulties & hardships. But it also shows what you receive from it. Marriage is fraught with hurt & pain. For awhile. As you learn to forgive, you realize you aren’t perfect either. It becomes the proof Heaven exists. Watching newlyweds I want so much to tell them, forgive. Trust me you will need forgiveness too. It is worth it! It is one of God’s greatest blessings! All of that difficulty turns into two people becoming one, the bond is inexplicable. No words come close. But this book, these two characters you can learn about the best part of marriage. They decide to not give up, and they choose to love & forgive. They choose to sacrifice their anger for the benefit of the other. People don’t understand that this amazing partnership is there for them to take! You can choose it daily! You get so much more out of it than you put in. Our oldest will be 40 tomorrow. My husband and I went from two completely different cultures, and upbringings, plus were teenagers, to become one unique family together. Our posterity rocks! Best book about marriage and the romance of the times, when being your true self meant giving service to others. Especially our spouses!

Exceptional

Another absolutely fantastic story! Thank you for writing a story that show how amazing God is without beating us over the head. As always the narration was fabulous.

Heartwarming and rich

I had read this series before but somehow never read this last book that looks back to the story of Godfre and Hobin (I probably spelled those wrong as I listened to the books on Audible.) another side note- I always enjoy the lovely lilting voice of Mary Sarah Agliotta.

I appreciate the frank handling Godfrey’s injuries, pride and slow climb to acceptance. This is of course a theme in many of the stories in this series as the sons all faced debilitating physical trials that would collapse many a man without faith and family to help him stand back up.

I love also the emphasis on forgiveness.

But never fear- this is plenty of action, intrigue and “who done it” excitement, and sensuous tumbling in the hay to thrill the mind and body beyond the spirit!

I am a big fan of all of Tamera’s books and Mary’s reading. Keep them coming!
