About this listen

It was the last place anyone should have called Home, the last place for kids to live.

The year is 1926. Dave's beloved father is dead and his stepmother doesn't want him. Only the HHB will take him in. "Hebrew Home for Boys" better known as the "Hell Hold for Brats". But Dave is tough and a troublemaker. He can take care of himself. If he doesn't like the Home, he'll run away and find a better place. Only it's not that simple.

Would you try another book from Gail Carson Levine and/or Jason Harris?

Maybe but I like this story.

What did you like best about this story?

When Dave tries to make jokes to Gideon about the father dying so nobody will think about it.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing

Do you think Dave at Night needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Maybe but no story could go on without that great beginning

Any additional comments?

Dave at Night should be a free book. And it should be featured.

Beautifully drawn characters and scenes. Any book with a Yiddish-speaking parrot is OK by me. Engaging reader.

Captivating Tale of a Rascal Orphan
