About this listen

It's a race against time as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace tries to stop a grieving mother from taking the law into her own hands in Dead Man's Grip, by award winning crime writer Peter James.

A university student is killed in a tragic traffic accident while riding their bicycle. When two of the drivers involved are hunted down by a sadistic killer, Grace knows that the third driver, Carly Chase, may be next.

Carly, a solicitor, believes hiding is not an option and heads to New York to speak with the cyclist’s mother. But Grace knows about the mother’s underworld connections and that the family will stop at nothing to take an eye for an eye . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be listened to in any order, Dead Man's Grip is the seventh thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective’s investigations with Not Dead Yet and Dead Man's Time.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

Preferred David Bauckham as narrator

Enjoyed the book as I have the rest of the series but preferred David Bauckham as narrator; he brought the characters to life!

An accidental thriller

This poor gal, one DUI and she's up to her neck in mafia alligators. She's British and they are in New York. Thank goodness we all have cell phones. I liked the characters including the NY heavy. Lots of running around, not a lot of violence, mostly bad guys. Fine adventure with a "tied to the railroad tracks" pace that kept me glued.

Chapter 114 is worth reading the whole book to get to!

It was a pretty good story, though less plausible than some of the earlier ones. Mainly because a woman who is a main part of the story, who is supposed to be a lawyer, makes idiotic decisions. These bring the story along, but completely boggle and frustrate the mind as to why this character is such a nimrod. Believe it or not, my favorite character was one of the villains. The narrator was great - thoroughly enjoyed his Angry Birds sound effects, amoung everything else.

I bought this twice

Audible has sold this book with two different covers. Usually when you're browsing, if a book is in your library, you will see this indicated along with your ratings if you graded the book.
I thought this was a new Roy Grace novel! Within twenty minutes I was having a bad deja vu experience. There was no indication on the book's display page that I already owned it, and when I typed the name into the search window in my library, it did not show the previous purchase.
This is an excellent book, and I rated it five stars when I bought it the first time, (last October, it turns out).
Audible needs to rectify this asap.

Quite an exciting ending

Enthralling beginning; edge-of-your-seat ending. In between were the usual repetition, great dialogue, tiresome Sandy bits, decent narration (except for the hokey American accents and funny pronunciations), and an entertaining story.

The beginning had me hooked. The booking procedure was scary, making me think about what it must be like to be arrested for something you didn't do. Frightening.

The last quarter of the book had me completely mesmerized. It was 4:00 in the morning and I couldn't put it down.

I liked this book. But, seriously, I am getting annoyed by the Sandy storyline.

My favorite in the series

I’ve been listening to Peter James’s detective inspector Grace in order and this is my favorite so far. Narrator was great and the storyline was cohesive and very enjoyable.

Boring narrator

I am still busy with the book however this narrator is boring. He adds to emotion to the characters. It’s flat and dull.
