About this listen

DESIRE, REVENGE & MURDERA DETECTIVE FIGHTING FOR SURVIVAL

In an untouched corner of Craynebrook, the lifeless body of a local farmer is found, his blood mingling with the mud of Blackbird Farm. For Detective Inspector Matthew Stannard, still nursing wounds from a brutal assault, this grisly scene marks the beginning of an investigation unlike any he’s worked on before.

As Matthew begins to unravel the clues, he finds himself caught up in a web of denials. Troubled by doubts, and grappling with his own physical and mental frailty, Matthew knows he needs all his wits about him if he's to see through the lies and uncover the truth.

But as the investigation deepens, danger surrounds him. Matthew is being hunted by his elusive assailant and is forced to defend himself against an official complaint that threatens to destroy his reputation and put an end to his career.

With danger lurking at every turn and enemies closing in on all sides, Matthew must battle to unmask the killer and restore his reputation before it's too late.

Outstanding!

In the 3rd book in the series by CK Harewood, DI Matthew Stannard is recovering from a severe attack and suffering with headaches. Rather than stay on medical leave, he returns to work and immediately finds himself investigating a murder. There are so many suspects and Matthew’s sharp mind is a still a little muddled to sort it out. Unfortunately, DI Stannard is simultaneously fending off accusations, jealous coworkers, tabloid reporters, crazed killers, and stalkers while he’s untangling a complicated murder scheme. The narration by Michael Langan is absolutely wonderful and fully engaging. His performance gives unique voices, accents, tones etc to each character. It is amazing to realize that only one narrator created such a rich audiobook experience to bring the book alive. I couldn’t stop listening last night snd continued to finish the book at 3 am! It was worth it! I hope there are more from this author and narrator.

A family affair

I was absolutely enraged at that jealous lazy Gary. He spread lies, opened someone else's mail, stole a gift, and committed slander and liable. If that doesn't warrant his firing I don't know what would. He lacks integrity and had a poor work ethics. This was such a twisted tale of betrayals, deciet, and delusions. I ached for Matthew and all the negatives in his life. Matthew was a pillar of integrity and deserved better. I was waiting for Matt to drop over and be in a coma from a subdural hematoma from the head concussion with all the headaches he had!!!! That would be too cruel. I think all the ends were tied up neatly. I'm still upset that Matthew suffered so much unfairly. A well crafted web!!! I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator did an exceptional job bringing the characters and story to life.

3rd in the Series

This on got convoluted even for DI Matthew Stannard and his fellow officers. So many people mixed up in this crime that you almost need a playing list. Narrator does a good job keeping the readers attention throughout this entire storyline.
