Good 1930s British Murder Mystery

This story was well written and I like Detective Inspector Matthew Stannard and the way he finds evidence and how he questions possible suspects. I very much dislike his chief, who is a pompous a$$ and thinks he wants and ideas are more important than the truth. Narrator does a Good job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.

Superb historical mystery!

The Empire Club Murders by CK Harewood is the first of a new mystery series set in 1930s London. DI Matthew Stannard is newly promoted to a new police station and catches a murder on his first day. A unidentified body found and rather than unraveling the case, the mystery gets more knotty. As the investigation continues, more murders occur and they are all ties to a social club. DI Stannard is smart and clever but is pressured by his Superintendent, who resents him. I found myself rooting for both Stannard and for a more unlikely character to succeed. This is a great character and plot driven mystery. It is the perfect vehicle for narration by Michael Langan. His performance is absolutely wonderful and brings the story to life.

Sensational

Matthew was a very fair hard working cop with integrity. He didn't believe in beating confessions out of possible perps. It seemed like the supervisor and fellow cop Lund were extremely lazy and without integrity. Even when the supervisor threw Matt off the case he continued to pursue it in different avenues. He managed to solve the case without violence. Matt was a true hero in my eyes..I really hoped Nancy would be able to finish her good deeds without interference . Lol..I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters to life with individual voices and made the storyline seem real..I highly recommend this.
