About this listen
The aromas of wild thyme and Highland heather waft through Lochdubh, home to M. C. Beaton's eccentric policeman, Hamish Macbeth. Yet what the irascible constable smells in his latest case is the acrid scent of fear as an entire town is entrapped in something dark and deadly....
Yet as he deftly investigates the summer's high crimes and misdemeanors, he attracts the attention of his superiors. They feel a promotion and transfer will give him a larger playing field than Lochdubh. That's the last thing Macbeth wants. Now the laconic lawman needs a clever way to quash the move without losing his job entirely....

As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Story
You won't remember Mr. Heming. He was the estate agent who showed you around your comfortable home, suggested a financial package, negotiated a price with the owner, and called you with the good news. The less good news is that, all these years later, he still has the key. That's absurd, you laugh. Of all the many hundreds of houses he has sold, why would he still have the key to mine? The answer is; he has the keys to them all. William Heming's most at home in a stranger's private things.

Story
Twenty years ago, 16-year-old Tara Martin disappeared from a small town in the heart of England. Now, her sudden return and the mind-bending tale of where she’s been will challenge our very perception of the truth. For 20 years after Tara Martin disappeared, her parents and her brother, Peter, lived in denial of the grim fact that she was gone for good. Then suddenly on Christmas Day, the doorbell rings at her parents’ home, and there, dishevelled and slightly peculiar looking, Tara stands. It’s a miracle, but alarm bells are ringing for Peter. Tara’s story just does not add up.

Story
Into Keldale's pastoral web of old houses and older secrets comes Scotland Yard Inspector Thomas Lynley, the eighth earl of Asherton. Along with the redoubtable Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers, Lynley has been sent to solve a savage murder that has stunned the peaceful countryside. For fat, unlovely Roberta Teys has been found in her best dress, an ax in her lap, seated in the old stone barn beside her father's headless corpse. Her first and last words were "I did it. And I'm not sorry".

Story
The first audiobook which appeared in Georges Simenon's famous Maigret series, in a gripping new translation by David Bellos.Inevitably Maigret was a hostile presence in the Majestic. He constituted a kind of foreign body that the hotel's atmosphere could not assimilate. Not that he looked like a cartoon policeman. He didn't have a moustache and he didn't wear heavy boots. His clothes were well cut and made of fairly light worsted. He shaved every day and looked after his hands. But his frame was proletarian. He was a big, bony man.

One of the best hamish mcbeth stories
I’ve enjoyed the hamish stories, but this one moved along very quickly and had a couple of sub plots going on at same time. It kept me entertained and I did not wanting stop listening.

This was Great
I've read several of the series.. This one was pretty good you're too good with all the added elements of intrigue and deception. As well as Hamish's quirks quirks and that of his dog Lugs.

I'm a sucker for the accents
Besides the accents, the story is fun and Hamish Macbeth is a great character as are the town folks. it's nice to escape to the highlands for a wee time.

Comfort Reading
What did you love best about Death of a Village?
I love anything by M.C. Beaton. Ok - maybe not the sexiest series, but I call the Hamish Macbeth series "comfort reading". Ms. Beaton has a great sense of humor and heartwarming characters. Totally in love with Lochdubh.
What about Graeme Malcolm’s performance did you like?
Graeme Malcolm as Hamish Macbeth is the best! He nails it.

Enjoyable Story
I enjoy many of the Hamish Macbeth Mysteries and this one is a good one. It makes me happy that Hamish is actually a good person and is very attached to the townspeople. So many detectives are jaded and bitter so it is very refreshing to have a nice little story surrounding a mystery. There really aren't enough words of flattery that I could give for the narrator. He is absolutely one of my favorites of all time.
