Publisher's summary

With their engaging plots, mellow Scottish ambiance, and droll humor, the Hamish Macbeth mysteries always provide a bonnie time. The charming antics of their hopelessly unambitious and love-crossed hero have earned the series a dedicated following. Death of an Addict continues the Hamish Macbeth tradition of superb entertainment, with some fascinating twists.

When a recovering addict dies while recuperating near Lochdubh, our redheaded hero suspects foul play. To complete his investigation, Constable Macbeth must leave his idyllic home and travel to Amsterdam to match wits with big-time drug dealers.

Fans will enjoy seeing a new, tougher side of Macbeth as he dons smart suits and falls in love with his gorgeous superior officer.

It was a horrible choppy feed.

I've listened to many books. This one I almost couldn't hang in there to finish.

Love this series!

I love this series and M.C.Beaton. The plots and twists are entertaining, the characters engaging and every time I listen to one, I'm ready to pack my bags and head to Scotland or the Cotswolds!

Love this series

While I have enjoyed almost all the books in the series the ending of this book kind of threw me for a loop. I had become so used to the happy endings of all the other books I’ve read by Beaton that this one with a sad ending kind of left me feeling a little low.

Best plot of series so far

I’m making my way through the whole series. Of all of them so far, this one had the least formulaic approach to the plot. Would not start with this one, because knowing the ongoing relationships is important to understanding the story.
I am used to this narrator, and he’s okay. But I am starting to get a little annoyed with how high pitched he often makes main character’s voice sound. There are young women to whom he assigns deeper, more man-like tones of voice. However, that’s not enough to stop me from continuing the series.
This series is more interesting than standard cozy mysteries, but less intense or intellectually “taxing” than more hard core mysteries. Easy listens, with characters who are becoming sort of like virtual neighbors by now.

Undercover

A recovering drug addict takes up residence in a cottage nearby Lochdubh. When he is discovered dead from an apparent drug overdose, things look suspicious to our Hamish. Hamish knows headquarters doesn't want him anywhere near the case, but when the young man's parents approach him and asks Hamish to find out who killed their son, what's an honest copper to do? So Hamish takes leave and goes to investigate, never dreaming it will take him to Amsterdam working undercover or having him falling in love with a superior female officer. Can Hamish handle the assignment and find love at the same time?
Another great adventure ŵith the unambitious copper from Lochdubh, Constable Hamish Macbeth.

Love Hamish McBeth

You cannot listen to any of the Hamish McBeth mysteries without falling in love with his personality, charisma, and determination to get to the bottom of all mysteries (mostly deaths).
