Publisher's summary

It’s a star system fight to the death to be on the right side of history in the final explosive Kat Falcone novel by bestselling author Christopher G. Nuttall.

The Commonwealth Civil War has stalemated, but both sides - desperate to win at all costs - are looking for ways to end the fighting before everything they’ve built is turned to ash. King Hadrian, on the edge of madness, searches for allies who might help, at a price. His enemies, all too aware the battle is far from won, search for long-forgotten truths that might tear the king’s forces apart and end the war in a single blow. For Admiral Kat Falcone and Commodore William McElney, caught on opposite sides, everything they’ve ever loved is at stake.

William knows a secret, a secret that may end the war if he and his friend Kat can work together long enough to use it. But powerful forces are arrayed against them, intent on fighting the war to the bitter end. One false move and they’ll both fall into fire...

...And hundreds of planets will burn with them.

Good ending to the series

I was entertained and I do like the Falcone universe.
however, the narrator do not have good enough voice range to give life to the characters. sometimes it's very difficult to distinguish between which character is speaking because they all sound similar.

No character development

I thoroughly enjoyed the earlier novels in this series but these last two novels have zero character development. The characters are completely flat. Reads like someone narrating a Halo video game. I would suggest author developing characters like he did with Jasmine in earlier books in series and Kat Falcone and William McEnally in Falcone Strike series.

Too much political nonsense

Personally, I don't like politics & stories that are mostly political. If you're emotionally invested in the story so far, then this is an okay ending to the story arc. Not being from Scotland, this is only speculation, but I think that the politics reflect Scotland's & Britain's politics in the past.

There are some discrepancies in the story. For example, at the end of the last story arc, Kat drops her ring into Pat's grave as he is being buried. In this story, she has it on her hand. It is briefly mentioned in a single sentence.

Also, there are times when the Audible narration says a planet's name at the start of a chapter which is obviously not the correct planet. Somebody needed to proof read this better.

Overall, I still enjoyed the story.

Research

this is a good set of stories. However, the narrator needs to learn proper naval terminology.

Nails on a chalkboard

The narrator is awful… Just awful. Her whiny voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Run. Just run. Avoid the high school cheerleader whining about her social media account sounding narrator like the plague!

The immediate war ends and yet another is setup

With the revelations of the middle volume it became apparent which side would be victorious and this book moves forward to that conclusion while still attempt to provide some suspense and broaden the story. William meets with Kat to pass the truth along and soon after the war is brought to a conclusion just as it appears that everything is ready to fall apart. Hopefully this reset will allow KAT and William to move on to joint effort in among the frontier worlds and a more interesting story line.

The end is coming

So, we find Kat and William on different sides. With a mad king and the French causing trouble for all. When Kat is finally told the news about her father's death, it leaves her with one choice but will her crew and fleet agree. I also have to agree with the point raised in other reviews, the narrator really needs to learn about naval terms and ranks.
