About this listen

Caitlyn Aguirre should have been a magician. Her family certainly expected her to be a magician. But by the time she reached her 12th birthday, Caitlyn hadn't even managed to cast a single spell! In desperation, her parents send her - and her magical sisters - to Jude's Sorcerous Academy, her last best chance to discover her powers.

But as she struggles to survive her classes without a single spell to her name, Caitlyn starts to uncover an ancient mystery that may prove the key to her true powers.... If she lives long enough to find it.

great book, great story

The world that the Zero Blessing brings you into is fascinating and exciting. The magic system is fun and makes sense while having exciting twists. I am excited to read the next book.

Good stuff

I’m normally a science fiction fan rather than a fantasy person, but I make an exception for Chris Nuttall’s stuff. He has innovative and very logical magic systems, with appealing characters and a knack for keeping a story moving and bringing it to a satisfying climax that ends the story and leaves me wanting the next in the series.

Exactly what I expect from Mr. Nuttal

If you were of fan of the Schooled in Magic series than you should like this one. It isn't a huge diversion from the same theme but I think it is different enough. Girl in a magic world, she believes she has shortcomings which she thinks will ruin her life, something happens or something she has learned and now she is at the top of the heap but that isn't always an easy place to be. Same ingredients as the Schooled n Magic series but the flavor is different enough to give it a listen.

The Familiar of Hogwarts

I'm not sure if the author was actually inspired by them or not, but it feels like there was some very definite inspiration from both the Harry Potter novels and The Familiar of Zero anime. It does have plenty of distinct traits of its own, but if you're familiar with both of them you already have a decent idea of where most of the book is going. It's still a very enjoyable read, as the further in you get the more it works on developing its own distinct feel instead of just being an amalgamation, which really helps the characters to shine. I'm definitely looking forward to listening to the remaining novels in the series.

this isn't a "Harry Potter" replica.

enjoyed the concept. got a little tired of hearing the MC constantly repeating her weaknesses in her head. but I get what the author was aiming for as far as showing the mental state of the protagonist. looking forward to the next book.

Enjoyed thoroughly.

App barely gives a tweet worth of text, so I can't say anything more helpful.

enjoyed this book

strong characters, well written though I have noted some things that didn't make sense. But that could have been me not paying attention. this is actually what it says. a children's book. I would have said young adult. very impressed with the writer.

Great story for young adults

The story is well put together and the way the tension ramps up is perfect.
It is nice to listen to a story that is well constructed.
