About this listen

After being forced to kill an FBI agent gone rogue in self-defense while working in the violent crimes unit for the Investigative Services Branch, ranger Madison Thorn is comfortable with her move to the fraud and cyber division. At least numbers don't lie. So she's less than thrilled when a white-collar crime investigation in Natchez, Mississippi, turns violent. She could also do without being forced to work with former-childhood-enemy-turned-infuriatingly-handsome park ranger Clayton Bradshaw.

When a woman who looks just like Madison is attacked on the same night Madison's grandfather is shot, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger going on here and that Madison herself is in danger. Madison and Clayton will have to work together—and suppress their growing feelings for one another-if they are to discover the truth before it's too late.

USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Patricia Bradley closes out her popular Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with this complex story of family secrets, mixed motives, and learning to trust.

I loved it! The whole series is great but, this one in particular meant more to me, as an adoptee.

Great read !

Author needs to tone back the religious push to this series. Otherwise I would have given more stars.

I really like this book and the series! I wish the reader would have done a little better job w/ pronunciation.

When I started listening to Deception, I was glad no one else in my family was home that day because the book captivated me. All day long and into the night, I listened to it--couldn't stop...it was that good. The next day I went back and listened to the last third of the book again. What made it so good? The romance. It's impossible not to listen to a good clean, well-written romance. The mystery. Not wanting to divulge too much and write a spoiler, I'll just say that the book begins with confusing actions that seem illogical, possibly from mistaken identities. The setting. Having grown up in Mississippi, where my husband received a speeding ticket on the Natchez Trace and where we spent time visiting relatives in Natchez, I enjoyed going back there in a book. The plot. It was impossible to predict the outcome of all the twists and turns of the novel. The characters. The people came to life.

I listened all day and into the night.

The plot was interesting. The characters had depth. The narrator messed up a few words here and there, just very obviously misspoke. It wasn’t enough to ruin an otherwise reasonably good narration. The way the very end was worded annoyed me, but there could be multiple interpretations and I’m choosing to believe the one I prefer. Overall, one of the better books in this series and the ends were tied up better than in the (slightly) abrupt endings the other books had.

Excellent story
