Publisher's summary

Class reunions: a time for memories - good, bad, and, as Virgil Flowers is about to find out, deadly - in the thrilling new novel in the number one New York Times best-selling series.

Virgil knows the town of Trippton, Minnesota, a little too well. A few years back, he investigated the corrupt - and, as it turned out, homicidal - local school board, and now the town's back in view with more alarming news: A woman's been found dead, frozen in a block of ice. There's a possibility that it might be connected to a high school class of 20 years ago that has a midwinter reunion coming up, and so, wrapping his coat a little tighter, Virgil begins to dig into 20 years' worth of traumas, feuds, and bad blood. In the process one thing becomes increasingly clear to him. It's true what they say: High school is murder.

Critic reviews

“Along the way to the satisfying ending, Virgil displays the rough humor and rough justice that make him such an appealing character.” (Publishers Weekly)

“The tenth Flowers novel is a knowing portrait of small-town life layered into a very well plotted mystery. Virgil understands that, in small towns, no one ever outgrows high school, and he uses that knowledge to unravel both mysteries by dissecting the relationships and economic realities in the town. One of the very best novels in a superior series.” (Booklist, starred review)

“The reader’s quest to discover the whole truth will propel them forward, where [Sandford] has plenty of twists (and more than a few laughs) planted along the way. Deep Freeze is easily one of Sandford’s best Virgil Flowers novels yet.” (The Real Book Spy)

Never disappoints!

Classic Sandford, classic Virgil. The one star rating that I saw was (I assume) given by someone with a low opinion of themselves rather than the book. But then again, I have a kid and two dogs named after Sandford characters-Weather, Jenkins and Shrake-respectively. So maybe I'm a biased fan.

That f... Flowers

Rarely does a supporting character from another series become a quality character in a new series. Virgil Flowers is such a character. Over several books John Sandford has developed a person we readers can invest a little emotion in, root for, worry over, and enjoy spending time with. This is an excellent addition to the series, and I look forward to many more.

Great Great Book

This is a great read and story that keeps you glued in even though you know the killer. Love the funny side stories without being obnoxious.
My favorite author for the past 5-6 years and can’t wait till February when his next book drops. Long live John Sandford!!

Another great Virgil Flowers novel

Like most of the Virgil Flowers series, watching how he solves the case is an unmitigated joy. He is such a decent person and his relationship with Frankie just accentuates his decency.

Sanfdord writes a lead character with character! Love the wit, humor and “real” human quality. Great murder mystery. Conger is perfect to read Virgil Flowers. I could listen to him every day! The Virgil Flowers series has quickly become a favorite!
