Simply put, I love the combined force of Maberry and Porter. Porter makes the powerful storytelling of Maberry come alive. The strong characters Maberry has created are the exact folks I would love to be associated with in real life, and Porter is the only voice on the planet who can do them justice. I'm not actually into zombies or para normal stories, but I'm completely helpless to the strange power Maberry has over me. If I'm sitting on my couch with my dogs in my lap and a glass of wine in my hand while listening to any of Maberry's audiobooks, god help you if you knock on my door and interrupt my happy place. Even Joe Ledger won't be able to save you. Just sayin'

<Sigh> I can honestly say this was worth the wait! Hands down in the top 3 best books of the series. Ledger, Ghost and the gang are faced with a new face on an old foe in Deep Silence (no spoilers). Action scenes are top notch, we get new light shed on character backgrounds and see the home team save the day by the - literal- skin of their teeth.

A side note (mild spoiler): While I thought the depiction of the fictitious new commander in chief was funny and played well with the banter we have come to know and love - some who have a less evolved sense of humor may get their panties in a bunch at the coincidental similarities to a real life "character".

While I have liked the Joe Ledger series enough to buy all the primary releases (not the novellas), I usually take a week or more to listen to them as they are typically not my absolute favorite. I went through this book in two days. I didn't want to stop listening to it. Absolutely the best book of all of them. It almost gets tiring to say, but Ray Porter was his usual genius. That is why he is the undisputed #1 narrator out there. That is no dig at RC Bray, Christian Rummel, Will Wheaton, Mark Boyett and a few other top narrators. Ray Porter is just that much better then anyone else.
