About this listen

Defiant is the ninth in a series of near future SciFi/Thrillers whose young
heroine Ell Donsaii has a nerve mutation. This mutation has made her a genius as well as an athletic phenomenon.

In Defiant, she, her husband Shan Kinrais, and their friend Gary Pace begin working on commercialization of the carbon allotrope technology they learned about in “Allotropes”.

Also, new uses, both beneficial and dangerous are being found for her ports. These wormholes aren’t big enough to send people through, yet they make possible technologies that have created huge changes in our world. Those changes have resulted in tremendous economic and political upheavals. The political disturbances bring Edith Stockton to Presidential power, a woman who despises Ell and who is being stroked in that direction by individuals who want the secrets of Ell’s highly dangerous "one ended ports".

Stockton imprisons Ell in an effort to extort the one ended port technology from her and Ell, having determined that she cannot release that particular secret, must decide how to respond.

The Saga continues.

First of all I own the entire Donsaii series in kindle and as soon as the become available on Audible I purchase them.
That should say it all.

so short it doesn't finish the story

If you've made it to #9, you certainly know what these Donsaii books are like. This one is the same length as all the rest, but it doesn't complete the story it's telling. This is the least satisfying of all the books so far.

Felt unfinished

I enjoy most of the Ell Donsaii stories. Dahners has given himself a situation where he can play with every science geek's favorite speculations to his heart's content, as well as providing some very satisfying character situations. This one was fun too....but it just plain didn't feel finished. When the end arrived I was surprised, it felt like we were maybe halfway through act 2. Makes me think that it and the next book were actually originally one story line that was split. Lost a star because of how abruptly it ended.

Laura Bannister has a pleasant voice, reads for content and I genuinely enjoy her take on the dialogue, especially her approach to the MC. She could use a broader range of character voices, many of the secondary characters sound the same.
