About this listen

Vaz is the story of Vaz Gettnor, a socially impaired yet scientifically brilliant man. Despite his inability to relate to others, Lisanne married him in admiration of what she perceived as shy intelligence. However, she's been disappointed by the way he's settled for working as no more than a glorified lab tech with a low salary.

Adding to their problems, Vaz and Lisanne have two teenagers who are typically surly and embarrassed by their parents, but whom they want to send to college - if only they can find the money. When Vaz is fired from his job as a researcher but then discovers a means to achieve cold fusion, a technology that could solve the energy crisis and their financial difficulties, virtually no one believes him, least of all his family. In fact the only people who do believe are the ones who are trying to steal the technology from him....

Couldn’t put it down

I am a picky listener. If a book doesn’t hook me, I usually can’t get through it. This one surprised me! I got hooked and couldn’t stop.

Solid Science Fiction with Solid Narration

Many stories depend on characters not knowing critical information to create tension, angst, whatever. This story and the following books in the series use this technique extensively. Almost to excess with a couple of spots where it was hard to believe that a character didn't know/didn't tell/didn't ask. However the end result is the kind of story that kept me awake until 4 in the morning to finish.

A different kind of hero!

Science was fascinating. The plot was intriguing and depiction of vas as a genius on the spectrum was very well done.

Surprising Find!!

Found this book via Audible suggestion and they were so RIGHT-ON (Thanks Audible). I quickly became immersed in the story of Vaz and watched in fascination as his safe and secure life upended. I laughed at people's reactions to his antisocial behavior.. I giggled at how far he would go to avoid a vacation. No cliffhangers at the end, but I purchased book 2 like there had been because I want more fun with this entriging family! The physics theoretical concepts seemed plausible and do-able within the storyline and added substance to the tale.
