About this listen

He is everything she fears—she is everything he needs.

On the run from the demon hell-bent on possessing her, Selma Lehmann finds herself in the hands of a far more dangerous enemy.

Lord Protector Kain is ruthlessly handsome, brutally savage—and exactly the fate she’s feared since the day she learned what kind of creatures hunt her from the shadows. They call her a Breeder, and there’s only one thing a demon lord could want from her…but if she’s ever going to reclaim her freedom, she will have to trust the monster who swears to protect her from his own kind.

Kain never wanted a mate—only pain awaits a demon foolish enough to give his heart to a human.

When tantalizing Selma lands in his lap, he knows his duty is to put her to auction and return his focus to the war threatening to bring his entire race to its knees.

Yet every instinct in his body roars to make her his, and he’ll have to choose. His heart—or her soul?

Make sure you listen to the prequel Branded to get Selma's full story!

For fans of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series and Gena Showalter’s Gods of War comes this smoking hot demon romance from best-selling author Nora Ash.

Steamy paranormal romance at its best!

STELLA IS STELLAR!!

This book was one that I have not stop thinking about randomly. I thought I knew where it was going and than bam I didn't see it coming. Usually I'm pretty good at knowing what to anticipate, but this one got me and I loved it. Jason and Stella are of course the end all be all and it would have been great even if it wasn't with them narrating, but I loved this whole thing. Story, plot, pace, and character development were all top shelf.

Steamy and wicked and intertaining

Want steamy? Got it. Want wicked? Got it. Want a bit uncomfortable in some spots? Got that too. Over all it’s a great book. For those of us that tread the line between what’s romantic and what’s barbaric (or worse), then this is perfect. Not the most scandalous by far but it has earned its place in the ranks.

Dark excellence!

This book goes dark, so mind your triggers and content warnings! Selma witnesses and endures some seriously violent and disturbing things at the hands of demons. Her mental stability is questioned when she is the only one seeing the creatures, so this really puts the spotlight on our woefully inept mental health system and how it might handle a girl like her - especially when there are demons amongst the care staff. That aspect was difficult, but luckily not the entire focus of the story. She begins to realize how at risk she truly is once her status is identified. Her mind is fragile, but she is quite fierce! In spite of her traumatic experiences she is no meek female cowering to her fate. I was on the edge of my seat for her journey as she found her courage and fought for her freedom, eventually finding her power and not taking any crap from bossy demons. Kain’s past just broke my heart. As a result, he never wanted a mate. His only goal was to keep his territory secure and take care of his own. His constant fight against his own nature where Selma is concerned is very empowering and inspiring to the story. Selma brings out the best in him and he allows her to grow into her bad-ass self. In spite of the obvious - he’s a demon aspect, I thought the way Selma finds her love for him was realistic, given the personalities and circumstances. Their story is tragic and sexy and beautiful and terrible and empowering. I also found the history of demons to be very interesting and it really brought more depth to the story. Selma and Kain together are the light that could bring positive change and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Kesh’s book!

Performances by Stella and Jason made this story for me. Jason’s growly voice and ability to switch between characters of varying ages/types was perfect. I can’t imagine anyone else pulling that off and hitting that mark the same way! Stella’s performance as Selma was absolutely gripping! What she goes through is very dark and emotional and Stella really pulls you into the story at an emotional level without completely losing yourself to the experience (which is good in the dark parts). She also perfectly delivers the evolution of her character to find her power within herself and not be intimidated by her circumstances and even the super scary giant demons with snarly bad attitudes (not Kain). Delivered in flawless DUET and you just can’t beat that audiobook experience!

Narration outstanding

Jason Clarke’s voice is everything masculine and dark. The female narrator was excellent and I really enjoyed her as well. The story really drew me in. This was my first with this author and I will look for more from her.

Bring on the next one!

At first I didn’t think I was going to like it. It started off in the wrong direction for me. It caught my attention and I liked how it developed.

Rollercoaster of emotions : good to bad

Heed the trigger warnings and reviewers comments. They are not wrong .

Spoilers**

The first 8 chapters were disgusting, painful and confusing . A whole 2 chapters of rape by the bad guy . Why?
I almost returned the book.
After you get over or forward through that awful section then the story picks up.
Great story , lots of drama, politics and intrigue and both characters were lovable. The world building was ok. It could have been more detailed . I look forward to the rest of the books in the series.

Action-packed and Original

The storyline is interesting; quite a spin on rights or lack there of; didn’t find it predictable. The narrators did a fantastic job with characters. I just love these two dynamic narrators; they brought the story to life so vividly. Can’t what until the release of the next book in series!
