About this listen

Voted by Kindle Tips and Tricks fans as one of the 16 Great End of the World books!

Imagine that you wake one morning and everything you have come to know is gone. Your home and car, place of business, even loved ones, are all gone. How would you survive?

On leave from the US Marine Corps, Jason Black considered himself fortunate the morning an unnatural wind devastated Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite concerns for a distant fiancé, Jason holes up with other survivors in the ruins of a warehouse. Among the survivors, Kelly “Rocky” Cordova is an attractive, 30-something, single mother, determined to return to her Utah family. With diminishing resources, the survivors send Jason and Rocky in search of civilization and the cause of the mysterious storm. Their dangerous trek leads across a demolished countryside and into perilous encounters with other survivors. Scrounging daily for food, water, and shelter, they attempt to survive in a world where necessities are luxuries and conflicts might lead to understanding, romance, or death.

A suspenseful tale of love, survival, and the power of the human spirit to overcome Devastation.

I do not know if it was the editing or the narrator but so many of the conversations between the character had a long pause between characters when they spoke to each other. Also, some of the responses were odd and out of context. Real people do not talk like that. This issue actually got a little better after about 10 hours or so but it made the first half painful and frustrating.

Good story but something was wrong

Having read Devastation a few years ago I came to appreciate what a brilliant store teller Kevin J. McArthur is. I quickly bought his other works. I like to tur pages even when in this case I was turning them quickly. When I found that Devastation was available in audio through Audible I downloaded it. What a great job Stephanie Fritz did with the narration. I caught much more than I did reading it which is unusual. I do have a complaint though...I found myself spending more money on gasoline and put excessive miles on my care driving around the neighborhood listening to the tale in my car!

Devastatingly Awesome

This was an okay story and the performance was really good. But life was too easy. Every time they needed anything they were in the right spot at the right time. They easily got out of bad situations... even to the point of angels in wolf's clothing.

Interesting, a little too all is provided

Good, clean, story. I wanted it to continue. I will miss the characters. Best apocalyptic story I've read.

I want more

it started out really good but then got into feelings than survivalist stuff. then half way thru the book there was a lot of references to God. the last chapter was all about God . not for me but maybe it will work for someone else.

it started out really good

How do you turn a survival story into a soap opera? Read this for guidance. “Everyone feels like an outcast sometimes” said an ungrateful critic of the hero who had just saved her life. I couldn’t read anymore of this dreadful story. The only things devastating about Devastation are the weak writing and lack of plot.
Is Kevin a thirteen year old girl?

Awful

Poorly written and uneventful. Non-stop, rambling, dialogue with no advancement in the story. Weak storyline but so monotonous, it is hard to pick out what the story is at times...just a bunch of people talking to each other. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah....

Run away
