About this listen

The Methodist and the highwayman: heaven, meet hell...

Her pious father’s murder leaves Faith Montague orphaned and lost on the dangerous road to London , only to be rescued by a notorious highwayman. Morgan de Lacy, a lawless rake with the bearing of a nobleman, treats her finer than those who should have loved and protected her. Recognizing a fine gem when he sees one, de Lacy sets about seducing his orphaned companion. His caresses incite passion…his fiery kisses tantalize, and Faith is in peril of losing herself to temptation.

She may be the brash Irishman’s captive, but pride will not allow her to surrender to a man whose lust for revenge terrifies her.

Mary Jane Wells

This is the first book that I have listened to that was narrated by Mary Jane Wells and her narration is seamless and never distracting. I will definitely look for books specifically narrated by Ms. Wells.

New Author for me and great book

Devil's Lady has a lot of great and interesting characters. The story of Jack and Faith is a beautiful love story that has its ups and downs. Patricia is one of those authors who can draw the reader/listener into the story. As a result, I laughed and wept with Jack and Faith and felt their anger. Each and every character in this story is strong and unique. Mary Jane Wells is one of top 3 favorite narrators. She does the Irish brogue better than any other narrator I've heard. She also distinguishes between male and female voices. Jack, the hero, is an Irish fella who is full of fun, full of himself, and blustery. MJW make Jack a man above men. Thank you PR and MJW for a great listen.

Enjoyable story

I did enjoy this story a great deal although I wanted to tell her to tell him to get lost with his fickle mind changing.
BUT the narration of the story is truly excellent work. She gave each character a distinct, appropriate, & relatable personality. I am a new fan of Mary Jane Wells & will be looking for more of her work.

The Methodist and her Rogue

A wonderful tale of heartache and true love. After her father is murdered Faith is lost as she tries to make her way to London. Morgan De Lacy is highway man getting back at the English for all that was done to his family!
He comes across what he thinks is a child and takes her back to his cottage. It isn’t until he finally gets a real look at he and feel that he realizes his little Methodist isn’t as young as he thought. He will try his wiles into seducing her.
A wonderful read with many peaks and valleys.

I Feel Robbed!

I really liked this story a lot. I loved the narrator. I will look for other books read by the same. I liked the characters, but didn’t feel invested in them because they held so much back from themselves. There really wasn’t much analysis or explanation for the way they felt about things. I feel like this book could have easily been twice as long. Huge important swaths of experience were left completely out. It made the transitions clunky, awkward and confusing. It felt like the author was being lazy and did not want to expend the energy to tell the whole story. For instance, the main character gets on a boat headed to the new world and there was maybe one paragraph written about the entire voyage. Even then, we learn more about the character’s health than the voyage itself. They get tickets to board and then, immediately, they spy the land of the new world. Nothing in between. I would love if the author would go back and finish this book and write the parts that are left out. This story has the potential to be memorable and enduring. It just needs more flesh. It’s pretty one dimensional as it is. We don’t get to know anyone really well, and there are no parallel plots. The narrator was the reason I enjoyed it so much. Had it been read by a lesser talent, it would have gone no where.

Detailed!

This was a long one that felt long.

The books takes place of a few years so I feels longer than most. It's not your typical love at first meeting type of story which I like.
But I can't say the first half didn't make me uncomfortable. He thinks she's a child and within an hour of finding out she's not he's dtf. He's emotionally manipulative but also his character traits really fit the time period. This is very realistic. It does not gloss over anything. The main female character accepts her role as a women in that time period, where as a lot of regency novels have a woman who is "different", she is just trying to get by and be happy. She is unbelievably naive to the point you want to slap her but it kind of makes sense for her character. Kind of.
There is a lot of conflict and issue to keep you interested, very dramatic in a non action sort of way.

Love This Book

It's perfectly imperfect. The noble rake, the stubborn heroine, the greedy relatives and the imperious lords--what else does a romance need? Love, of course, and it's there in spades.
