About this listen

No good deed goes unpunished in the Whisky Business cozy mystery series as distillery owner Abigail Logan uncovers dark secrets - and murder - at a local charity.

Photojournalist Abi Logan is finally ready to put her hectic career on hold and set down roots in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Studying the business and art of distilling whisky at Abbey Glen and volunteering at the Shepherd’s Rest women’s shelter in her spare time seem a surefire way to find the peace and stability she craves. It’s also the logical way to take her mind off her personal life. Abi’s business partner, Grant MacEwan, is facing a career-threatening disability, and as much as Abi longs to be there for him, he seems to prefer the company of a rival.

But as Abi becomes more involved with Shepherd’s Rest, she discovers that their refuge is elusive. When the shelter is rocked by a murder/suicide, Abi is outraged by the police’s lack of attention to these already marginalized women. Increasingly confident in her own skills as an investigator, Abi steps in to find out what the police will not: Who left one young woman dead and another missing. But when more deadly deeds come to light, Abi must race to unravel the connections between the shelter’s benefactors and the women they have pledged to protect - and expose the killer before he strikes again.

Excellent addition to the series

Melinda Mullet has crafted another excellent addition to the Whiskey Business series. The characters are well developed and seem mote like friends rather than characters in a book. Nice mystery with plenty of twists. Gemma Dawson gave a nice performance. I look forward to the next book.

My favorite of the series.

This book is my favorite one of the series. Same great characters, but the situation was a bit of a surprise. Picking up where they left off, we find out what happens with her love interest. Not too heavy. Great book for a road trip. I can’t wait for the next book.

Dirty Deeds in High Places

Wow! This is my favorite so far in the series. I am no stranger to the secrets and dirty tricks of board members of nonprofits who are supposed to be serving, whether in the UK or USA. This story definitely hit a chord with me. As Abi Logan takes on the volunteer position of board member at the Shepherd’s Rest, a home for battered women, she turns out to be a little more than the crooked board bargained for. A woman of means, yes, a self-centered, money hungry person, no. Not to be swayed into voting to displace the women who had already suffered abuse, Abi is soon thrown into a murder investigation when Jenny, one of the women at the shelter is found dead. Before long another woman goes missing, leaving a young daughter behind to be looked after. At the end of the previous book, Grant MacEwan, Abi’s business partner and master distiller at Abbey Glen, had suffered a debilitating injury that had left him unable to work. His ex-fiancée, Brenna swooped in to console (and coddle) him, making for a “right mess”. As Abi works on the problems at Shepherd’s Rest, she also begins to think outside the box and tries to get Grant out of his depression and back into the distillery in whatever way she can. Excellent tale of intrigue, investigation, and the conclusion is the best ever!

Lovely cozy mystery

I really enjoy the Whiskey Business series. These gentle mysteries are a lovely companion when I am folding clothes or in the bath. I enjoy our heroine and the little hints of romance. It’s always easy to figure out who did it and why before the reveal, but that’s ok. I enjoy the narrator’s voice and style and would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a gentle cozy mystery set in the UK.

I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS

ANOTHER WINNER! AS ALWAYS, THE STORYLINE WAS INTRIGUING, AND FINALLY PROGRESS ON THE RELATIONSHIP FRONT. OKAY, SO PART OF MY GETTING TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS IS AN INTEREST IN THE PROTAGONISTS' PERSONAL LIVES. SO SUE ME! HA, THIS SERIES IS ENTERTAINING, INTELLIGENT, AND INCLUDES JUST ENOUGH FUN.
