Publisher's summary

Miracle Springs is a place of healing. Strangers flock there hoping that the natural hot springs, five-star cuisine, and renowned spa can cure their ills. And, if none of that works, they often find their way to Miracle Books, where, over a fresh-baked scone from the Gingerbread House bakery, they exchange their stories with owner Nora Pennington in return for a carefully chosen book. That's Nora's special talent: prescribing the perfect novel to ease a person's deepest pain and lighten their heaviest burden.

But when a visiting businessman reaches out to Nora for guidance, he's found dead on the train tracks before he can keep their appointment. Determined to uncover the truth behind the businessman's demise, Nora forms the Secret, Book, and Scone Society, and, as the society works to untangle the web of corruption surrounding the murder, they also discover their own courage, purpose, and a sisterhood that will carry them through every challenge.

Good and entertaining

I like the strong women and their stories. Also like the setting in a small town.

Meh..formula cozy

This wasn't the worst book I ever read/listened to. It was just nothing special. The mystery was thoroughly predictable and the characters, who started out interesting enough, got fairly tiresome by the end. It used several of my least favorite "cozy tropes" (which I won't expand on as it would spoil the book).

I probably won't read any more if this turns into a series.

The narrator was fine.

An enjoyable listen

Good characters and story, but the premise with the scone baker and the bookstore lady being sort of therapists is a huge step to believe along with their personal stories was just too much. The stir would have been better for me if the scone and book therapy would have been cut from the story.

I really enjoyed this story of growth and change.

Nora owned a book store and lived in a caboose. She had scars from burns and scars in her heart. As she and her friends shared their own scars they became like my own friends.

Great character development, funny at times, good plot. First book in series so set the stage nicely.

Fun & light for a cozy!

I really enjoyed this one, fun characters and a mystery linked to them all. I loved how they all came together in the small town for a unique purpose. Loved all the literary references.

Book & Scone Society

This is a cozy mystery set in the western part of North Carolina. The mystery was very engrossing and the book was well narrated. It took me a while but really enjoyed this book so much. This is my first book by this author and was really glad I listened to this one; such a good book. Highly recommend this book and will be reading/listening to more of this author's works.

Pleasant But a Stretch

This story is pleasant but the characters are a little clichéd and it requires suspension of disbelief at various points in the plot, such as criminals spilling forth confessions when confronted. There is a lot of truth to the various approaches to emotional healing presented, from aromatherapy to healing of memories to simple compassionate listening, but at times it feels that the author invests them with an almost mystical quality. I also noticed several obvious grammatical errors that should have been caught in editing.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but not enough to pursue other titles in a series.
