About this listen

If she could speak to them, she would say they have exploded her heart, released firecrackers through her senses. She wishes she could call the police, the ambulance, the fire brigade, to arrest and anaesthetise and waterboard the bastards.

So what happens when your husband runs off with your best friend? When you discover the dead body of an old man halfway through your delivery round? When your house is burgled and you get beaten up? Doris, Andy, and Colleen are about to find out. They’re also about to discover that you can find friendship and support in the oddest of places....

Heart-rending, humorous, and above all, authentic, Distorted Days is an exquisitely written account of the ways in which life can knock you off our feet - and how you can pick yourself up again. If you’ve experienced the fickleness of fortune, this is a book that you’ll never forget.

Definitively worth it. relatable characters

'Distorted Days' is a very different kind of book about everyday life, routine and next door unknown struggles. Nothing dreamy, nothing extraordinary, just three common folks running into each other at work or at the corner grocery, almost a mundane account of a stoic existence. It is a book about our lives, about your life, mine our neighbors.

We are following pregnant Doris whose husband (Cock) suddenly moves out Christmas week to run off with her best friend (Twat).
How do you cope with the ultimate betrayal ? Who is there to lift you up ? As Doris proceeds one day at a time, the reader meets Colleen and Andy, whose perspective on a challenging actuality is a very different one from Doris.
This narration is a realistic account , a comparison on how people accept life and how they react to events in general.
Recounting life’s griefs, losses and attempts, the story successfully stays uplifting and positive and will remain with you long after you are done reading.

Louise Worthington comes out as a very gifted writer with a deep understanding of the human condition.
Her short book has a rhythm to it that is repetitive but soothing at the same time : “They make her drink, guzzle until her stomach is a well…They still make her drink, sip if she has to…faces at the bottom of the glass…and They are still watching…then it is dark, the color of a drinker’s liver”
