Publisher's summary

This volume includes Suspicion, Relation, Tradition, Decision, Benediction, and bonus novella Domestication, books, 7, 7.1, 7.2, 8, and 9 of the Diversion series.

Suspicion:

Lucky “Simon Harrison” Lucklighter left behind his criminal past to become one of the best agents in the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau. He’s found a committed partner in fellow agent Bo Schollenberger and built a life.

Now, enemies within the SNB and a friend’s betrayal leave him nowhere to turn - not even to his mentor.

His boss’s life, the future of the SNB, and Lucky’s career depend on him. With the help of his lover, an old enemy turned ally, and a man Lucky thought he’d seen the last of, he must stand and fight for what he believes in.

Even if he has to step outside the law.

Relation:

Expecting to die while trapped in a Mexican drug tunnel can make a man rethink his life choices.

Bo and Lucky have a home, steady, if dangerous, work, and each other. Maybe even the beginnings of the reconciliation with the Lucklighter clan they promised themselves. The Schollenburgers, though -Bo hasn’t yet opened up that can of worms, near-death experiences or no.

Tradition:

Lucky has dreamed of an old-fashioned Christmas with Bo for years. Unfortunately, something always got in the way. This year is looking unusually promising, though, if they can keep a well-intentioned family and work from spoiling the magic of the season. Their first Christmas together will set the bar for years to come, which means blending their favorite traditions and taking the best of both.

Decision:

Follow the law, or follow their hearts?

By-the-book Bo Schollenberger’s training to be the new boss at the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau. He’s always been the moral compass for his partner Lucky Lucklighter, or Simon Harrison, or whatever-the-hell his name is this week.

Lucky might have read the book or parts of it, but toes the line between legal and...not so legal. A little moral elasticity lets him out-maneuver the bad guys. It’s not broke, why fix it?

They butt heads at work, but they’re rock solid at home, where their biggest concern is when, or if, they’ll become parents.

Their latest case puts them in a tailspin when drugs flood a local high school and someone hands Lucky’s nephew a vial of pills like they were candy. Unraveling the drug ring leads them straight into a nest of human trafficking, way outside the jurisdiction of the SNB, but no way could Bo and Lucky let the perpetrators leave Atlanta scot-free. No one gets away with harming innocents, especially family.

The letter of the law says to trust the legal system, but doing the right thing might lead them outside the lines.

Especially when the youngest trafficking victim lands squarely in Bo’s lap.

Benediction:

"Are you afraid yet? You should be".

Undercover narcotics agent and former drug trafficker Lucky Harrison paid his debt to society and now lives a law-abiding life, complete with a home, a man he loves, and their son.

An old enemy lurks in the shadows, threatening all he holds dear. A dead witness. A kidnapping attempt. Arson. All send the message: "I’m coming for you". Hiding in Atlanta’s underbelly, always one step ahead of Lucky, the killer will stop at nothing to exact revenge on the man who thwarted his plans.

happy i stuck with it

📖 Story comment:
Pace: Reasonable - i'd call these "easy listening" - good to have on while doing something else.

Main Characters: • Lucky: I like that these characters have been allowed to 'age' and don't always come through trouble unscathed • Bo: hasn't been much reference to Bo being an ex-marine in these ones, which I thinks works better for him - he's a smart and intelligent agent and it comes through.

Story: I've enjoyed these last books the best - and including the novella's is an appreciated bonus!. The characters have matured (Lucky is closing in on age 40 in these books) and showing good growth and maturity, there's lots going on both on Personal and Professional levels and Lucky's circle of people has grown significantly.

I'm glad I stuck this series out, now that I've listened to it once, i'd be happy to listen again. The characters have grown on me now and the epilogue (27 years later) was a nice addition.

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Darcy Stark's performance. Each character has a distinctive voice, he has good timing, inflections and intonations - and his voices are consistent across the series.

This volume is good value for a credit.

Absolutely loved the series finale! So bummed to be done with Bo and Lucky but so satisfied with everything.
