About this listen

When the economy tanks in Whiskey Creek, Georgia, hairstylist Jolene Claiborne expands her business to include skin care. A wise move until Scarlett Cantrell, a local celebrity, is murdered in the facial room. The police brush aside Jolene’s suspicions that the incident is tied to a recent break-in, and, to complicate matters, the victim's ghost threatens to make Dixieland Salon her permanent place of residence if Jolene fails to expose the killer.

Scarlett’s last words provide the only clue: “Find the jade elephant. Explains everything.” That is until a book of poetry turns up with a dangerous secret inside. Dealing with a diva ghost ain’t easy in the Bible belt. Throw in a sexy police detective, a crooked mayor with connections to the mob, a family cover-up, and a mother who hasn’t cut the apron strings, and you get one stressed out middle-aged hairstylist with murder and mayhem on the brain.

Hair Salon at it's best

Cutesy mystery with a touch of romance. MS Ewing brought the southern personalities and southern family dynamics to life. A really good listen. The narrator's voice is clear and expressive. She nailed the accents down pat. Great job.

Dixieland Dead

Murder in a southern salon. Jolene Claiborne needs to get to the bottom of the fatal facial before her business goes belly up... but more importantly so that the ghost of Scarlett can move on.

A nice start to to an interesting series.

Light and humours at times.

It took me awhile to get into this story and the narrator did not suit this audio book. It was not a bad but others might appreciate it more then I did.

Fun read!

As the other reviewer said, it's a cutesy mystery with a lot of humor and a little romance. The narrator did a fantastic job with all the accents, and with differentiating between the characters. The book was very light, kind of a beach read, but good enough to hold my interest all the way through. I look forward to other books in the series as they become available!

Dixieland Dead: The Haunted Salon

Add one Southern stubborn salon owner + one ghost + one sexy detective and you get a story that will have you sitting back sipping a southern ice tea, fanning yourself and hoping romance will win.
Jolene and her two sisters on a salon and for to financial constraints have added a skin care section. The local reporter, Scarlett, comes in for an appointment and dies. To make matters worse, Scarlett's ghost shoes up and can only be seen by Jolene. The race is on to see who will solve the case--Jolene or the police.
The narrator is fantastic with her southern portrayal and portrayals. She makes you feel the languid days and nights of the South.
Fantastic sorry, narration and read!!

loved it

I loved this book. A sassy patron dies in a beauty salon while getting a facial and Jolene one of the owners, here her last words about someone tried to kill her and to find the jade elephant. The police start to suspect it was some type of accident or one of the stylist is responsible. Jolene decides to investigate when the ghost of Scarlet, the victim visits and says she needs her help or she will be earthbound and will be a ghost forever at the salon. Jolene is the only one at the salon that sees her. She finds out later she has the gift to see the dead.

This book is hilarious and a fun read. I am from the south and i liked hearing the names of towns i am familiar. Like Macon Ga. I definitely would like to do more of these books.

The narrator did a great job with the characters.
