About this listen

Suzanne Brockmann's seamless blend of heroic military action and intense passion inspired USA Today to call her "a superstar of romantic suspense" - and for years her award-winning Troubleshooters audiobooks have been must-listens for fans of sizzling stories of action and adventure. Now the New York Times best-selling author shoots to thrill again with Do or Die, an electrifying new audiobooks that is certain to win Brockmann new listeners and delight devotees.

Navy SEAL Ian Dunn went rogue in a big way when he turned his talents to a lawless life of jewel heists and con jobs - or so the world has been led to believe. In reality, the former Special Ops warrior is still fighting for good, leading a small band of freelance covert operatives who take care of high-stakes business in highly unofficial ways. That makes Ian the hands-down choice when the US government must breach a heavily guarded embassy and rescue a pair of children kidnapped by their own father, a sinister foreign national willing to turn his kids into casualties. Shockingly, Ian passes on the mission for reasons he will not - or cannot - reveal.

But saying no is not an option - especially not for Phoebe Kruger, Ian's beautiful and unexpectedly brash new attorney. Determined to see the abducted children set free, Phoebe not only gets Ian on board but insists on riding shotgun on his Mission: Impossible - style operation, whether he likes it or not.

Though Phoebe has a valuable knack for getting out of tight spots, there's no denying the intensely intimate feelings growing between Ian and Phoebe as the team gears up for combat. But these are feelings they both must fight to control as they face an array of cold-blooded adversaries, including a vindictive Mob boss who's got Ian at the top of his hit list and a wealthy psychopath who loves murder as much as he loves money. As they dodge death squads and play lethal games of deception, Ian and Phoebe will do whatever it takes to save the innocent and vanquish the guilty - or die trying.

Critic reviews

" Do or Die will captivate readers with its intense, action-filled plot, alpha-and-a-half hero, and his smart, perfect-for-him heroine, as well as secondary characters who contribute pathos and humor." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"Brockmann leaves the reader breathless.... The sex is great, the action nonstop; and the dialogue between Ian and Phoebe is some of Rita Award–winning Brockmann’s best." ( Booklist)

First book in a new series!

Suzanne Brockmann is off to a great start to her new "Do or Die" series with Reluctant Hero. A mob family, foreign terrorist, the FBI, covert ops, a gay couple with a baby, a lawyer, plan A, plan B, goat f**ks and ex-Navy Seal Ian Dunn.

A pull you in romantic suspense that is not too heavy on the testosterone. Fantastic narration.

Action! Suspense! Romance!

In this book: action, suspense, romance, dialogue, humor, great plot on many levels, great characters!!!
This is probably one of Brockmann’s best for a nonstop thrill ride from beginning to end.
This is technically a stand alone, but there is a tie-in to the Troubleshooters series with Ric and Annie and Martell.
The dialogue is witty and funny.
The narration with Lawlor and Ewbank is great, too.
LOVE IT ON ALL LEVELS!

Loved it as usual

Loved it as usual, Suzanne Brockmann has a wonderful way of writing entertaining additions to her Reluctant Heroes series. Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank had great performances bringing all the characters to life.

Meh...

I absolutely HATE the main female character, Phoebe. She annoyed me to noo end and should not have been anywhere near any of this stuff. I literally liked everyone else more than her. Maybe something better than homophobia could keep a story going but it wasn't too bad.

Decent Story, Not So Decent Narration

The story was ok, but I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if the narration had been better. Although I enjoyed the tag-team male/female effort, the accents were pretty terrible and there was almost no attempt at changing voices to match characters. In this day and age when you have such amazing "character narrators" out there, I felt this just really fell flat. But the story was fairly interesting, although not that thrilling.

On the fence

The continous bickering between the main characters was over the top to where I was skipping pages. I fell that there was unnecessary filler in the book. Also, the hampering on the relationship between the gay brothers and his husband was over the top. Now there were some great moments in the story funny and heart felt however the problems listed above out weigh the pros if this story.

Great !!

I absolutely loved it!! Loved every minute of it, I didn’t want it to end. I was surprised I loved it as much as I did, this was my first book from this author. I did think Aaron was getting really Annoying. I’m going to find book 2.. plus I really enjoyed the narrators I never heard them before, definitely going to put them on my list!
