How can we apply technology to drive business value? For years we've been told that the performance of software delivery teams doesn't matter - that it can't provide a competitive advantage to our companies. Through four years of groundbreaking research to include data collected from the State of DevOps reports conducted with Puppet, Dr. Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim set out to find a way to measure software delivery performance - and what drives it - using rigorous statistical methods. This book presents both the findings and the science behind that research, making the information accessible for listeners to apply in their own organizations.

Publisher's summary
Docker in Action teaches listeners how to create, deploy, and manage applications hosted in Docker containers. After starting with a clear explanation of the Docker model, you will learn how to package applications in containers, including techniques for testing and distributing applications. You will also learn how to run programs securely and how to manage shared resources. Using carefully designed examples, the book teaches you how to orchestrate containers and applications from installation to removal. Along the way, you'll discover techniques for using Docker on systems ranging from dev-and-test machines to full-scale cloud deployments.
The idea behind Docker is simple. Create a tiny virtual environment, called a container, that holds just your application and its dependencies. The Docker engine uses the host operating system to build and account for these containers. They are easy to manage and applications running inside share resources, making their footprints small.
What's inside:
- Packaging containers for deployment
- Installing, managing, and removing containers
- Working with Docker images
- Distributing with DockerHub
Listeners need only have a working knowledge of the Linux OS. No prior knowledge of Docker is assumed. Jeff Nickoloff, a software engineer, has presented Docker and its applications to hundreds of developers and administrators at Desert Code Camp, Amazon, and technology meetups.

Story
Steven Levy's classic book traces the exploits of the computer revolution's original hackers - those brilliant and eccentric nerds from the late 1950s through the early '80s who took risks, bent the rules, and pushed the world in a radical new direction. With updated material from noteworthy hackers such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Stallman, and Steve Wozniak, Hackers is a fascinating story that begins in early computer research labs and leads to the first home computers.

Story
On May 31, 2014, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls attempted to stab their classmate to death. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier’s violence was extreme, but what seemed even more frightening was that they committed their crime under the influence of a figure born by the internet: the so-called “Slenderman”. Yet the even more urgent aspect of the story, that the children involved suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses, often went overlooked in coverage of the case.

Artificial intelligence does the seemingly impossible - driving cars, trading stocks, and teaching children. But facing the sea change that AI will bring can be paralyzing. How should companies set strategies, governments design policies, and people plan their lives for a world so different from what we know? In Prediction Machines, three eminent economists recast the rise of AI as a drop in the cost of prediction. With this single, masterful stroke, they lift the curtain on the AI-is-magic hype and show how basic tools from economics provide clarity about the AI revolution and a basis for action by CEOs, managers, policy makers, investors, and entrepreneurs.

Thank you!
Thank you Manning for creating this audio companion! I'm a slow reader and need this audio to guide me through the text. You'd need to get the text/paper version to fully understand the content. This audio is for the first edition of the book. That means you can buy cheap used books from Amazon. Although some technical details have been changed over the past few years, the basics are still the same. Once you get the paper version, this experience is pretty immersive! You just need to listen to the content like a story and refer to the examples on the paper version. The narrator's voice is pretty engaging. It makes the experience even better. This comment refers to Docker in Action. For the text, I'd prefer paper to digital so I can flip back and forth finding references. A paper version would also help remember the command/script/variables structures. We all sort of using our graphic/text memory.
BTW, I'd need to pause the audio when an example (code/command) is presented so expect to pause the audio frequently.
Edit:
I see some issues with the outdated contents now. I'll list them below.
- Chapter 4: "Volumn Containers" are no longer recommended. Use Docker Volume instead.
Edit:
Due to the content update in the 2nd edition of the book, I can no longer recommend this audio. I personally also have the 2nd edition in paper format. However, I'll keep the rating to encourage Manning to produce more audio content like this.
