Publisher's summary

Camille Coduri reads this brand new novelisation of the Ninth Doctor’s debut TV adventure. “Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!”

In a lair somewhere beneath central London, a malevolent alien intelligence is plotting the end of humanity. Shop window dummies that can move – and kill – are taking up key positions, ready to strike.

Rose Tyler, an ordinary Londoner, is working her shift in a department store, unaware that this is the most important day of her life. She’s about to meet the only man who understands the true nature of the threat facing Earth, a stranger who will open her eyes to all the wonder and terror of the universe – a traveller in time and space known as the Doctor. This is the story that relaunched Doctor Who for the 21st Century, novelised by showrunner Russell T Davies from his original script. Running time: 4 hours 10 mins.

Loved it!

Excellent as always. I enjoyed how much more in depth the story went. The episode was good. It'll always be a favorite of mine, but the story rounded it out very nicely. Not only did I learn more about Rose and her mother, but I also got more info about side characters so that they weren't just random faces to later be forgotten.

And I absolutely loved Camille Coduri as the narrator. It's odd at first hearing Rose's mother as both the Doctor and Rose, but you get used to it. It just goes to show how good I find her that I can forget who she really plays and lose myself in the story.

Rose with additional context

Just a bit more context in the novelization when compared to the TV story. I’m a true believer that I love the character Rose bc her creator, Russell T Davies clearly did (and still does). A nod to the parallel world, a fateful New Year’s encounter and an oblivious Donna Noble are a few examples of why this is worthwhile to RTD loving Whovians. Also a great performance from Camille Coduri.
