The instructions are clear

I have had dogs for 10 years, but this is definitely the best, most fun, training book I've had. The instructions are clear. To add to the fun, many of the commands include the hand signal as well.

informative, interesting, and helpful

This was a terrific book for all dog owners, not just absolute beginners, even if a lot of it was directed towards people who have never had one and might not realize how much work and effort is required with a dog. I think everyone can learn something from the sections on how dogs communicate & experience body language, teaching commands & how to build up to complex commands, why "no" is too abstract a concept for dogs, puppy mental development, behavioral issues, discipline vs punishment, dominance vs leadership, as well as how canine behavioral science has evolved and no longer suggests that dogs will try to fill an alpha void if the owner doesn't exhibit alpha traits, and that dogs don't look guilty but rather submissive when they detect humans are angry for whatever reason.

I listened to this at 1.90 x.

I was given a free ARC copy of this audiobook, but that neither affected my opinion nor my review.

Must listen if you have a puppy

What a great audiobook if you have a new puppy or are thinking of getting one. This book covers everything from food and how to choose the best for your dog to grooming and all the in between stuff. I have had many dogs over my lifetime and I still learned something new. Even what I knew was taught in such a way that I will remember it better. Craig Levin is the narrator for this audiobook and he does a wonderful job of keeping you interested. Craig's speech is the perfect tone for this kind of instructional book. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.

A helpful guide for dog owners

This is a great book to learn how to teach a puppy or dog in general and spelled out for both a novice or someone who has owned dogs all their lives. It is talked about in basic terms, but gives useful information for most dog owners and should give some useful tips or knowledge to anyone who owns a dog. It is spelled out simply and delivered clearly by Craig Levin. An overall great little resource for anyone who owns or is thinking of owning a dog.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Well planned-chapter introductions & summaries!

Well chosen voice talent, clearly outlined points, important insights, clarification of common misconceptions regarding canine social order and displays of dominance while training.

I began employing strategies presented with our cockapoos, a newly adopted 8-wk old, and our 2.5 yr old. Undesirable behaviors developed by elder, such as jumping up on and darting past us through doorways was able to be extinguished within A DAY. And, the "umbilical" leash training has been amazing with the pup. She now walks exclusively on my left, and the older dog is following suit without any tether training.

I have had dogs my whole life, and still found this informative, as it dispelled myths, and provided strategies that work. Healthy dogs lead long lives so this was a fabulous training refresher before getting the new puppy.

Effective and clear

Most suitable for the dedicated trainer or someone who wants to teach dog concentrated methods like obstacle courses. Also, a great book to have when you first get your dog as a puppy. It's a step by step guide that is effective and clear with hand motions and training methods. Also, it's a good way to learn what your dog's actions mean and what your actions mean to them.

Sit, Stay.

This audio is very nearly good enough to teach the basics to someone from the deepest heart of the Sahara who has never even seen a dog before. It starts at the very very basics and moves forward slowly.

Fun for owners, educational for all.

First, I have to start off by stating that I got this book free of charge in exchange for a review, but as I always state, this does not in any way impact my review. My reviews are always honest and my own.

As the owner of 3 dog kiddos, I loved this. I have worked in rehabilitating dogs for years and I loved this book. It is educational and everything was things I apply in my work and I learned a few things along the way.
