A mystery worth digging into
Intriguing storyline by Ms. Pagels. She weaves together a story of war, yellow fever, murder, slavery into a beautiful story of redemptive hearts. She keeps you guessing on how everything can possibly work out. But in the surprising end she has given a happily ever after that leaves you smiling.

Wonderful historic, romantic fiction
Dogwood Plantation is a wonderful story of hope, love, forgiveness and redemption in a time of turmoil for the American people during the War of 1812. The audio version of Dogwood Plantation far exceeded my expectations. With Aletha Duncan’s talent in portraying the numerous characters of Carrie Fancett Pagels’ outstanding novel, the end result is excellent. I highly recommend this audiobook to everyone who enjoys being transported back in time through historic, romantic fiction.

Loved this book
I enjoyed listening to the Audible version of this book. A very talented narrator, Aletha Duncan did a wonderful job telling this excellent tale. She included a cute southern accent which was very fun to hear. The very nice voice made for a very entertaining listening time as she effortlessly changed voices among the various characters she portrayed.
The author has quite a way with words and the descriptions of the scenes you are reading about. Makes you feel as though you were there experiencing everything personally. This story of this southern plantation was an excellent read. Cornelia was a fun and lively character who deals with many trials and sadness as the story develops.
The story has suspense and lots of trials and has many twists and turns. It is an excellently written historical fiction. There are sensitive parts to this book but carefully developed. There are Christian themes in this book. I enjoyed it very much.
I received a complimentary copy of this Audible book from the author. All thoughts are my own.

Beautiful story set in 1812 Virginia
This was a beautiful story set in Virginia 1812. A yellow fever epidemic has forced Carter to return home and care for his nephews and Dogwood Plantation after the death if his brother. Nell is the daughter of the plantation manager. Her father also succumbed to Yellow Fever leaving her to care for her younger brother. She struggles with providing their needs and has to face many decisions. Carter and Nell grew up together and were forced apart by Carter's dad who thought she was beneath him. I love how the author intertwines their history together with the present. The character development was superb. I especially loved how she made some of the characters hard to love at first, until you really got to know them, especially the cousin.
The narrator did a good job with distinguishing the voices and personality of each character. I feel she did especially well with Cousin Hayes. I was a little annoyed at how mechanical the actual narration was in the beginning, but feel it got better as the story progressed. Or maybe the story was just so enjoyable itself that I quit noticing.

Amazing story of hardship, love and forgiveness!
I so enjoyed listening to a good story and very interesting to try and figure out who was the one behind all the deception, harm and revenge.

Enjoyed This Book Twice!
I listened to the audiobook after I read the book. The narrator sure brought it to life and I enjoyed the story all over again. Every time I read another book by an author I love it’s always the best one yet. That’s what has happened with the Dogwood Plantation. Vivid descriptions of the plantation, the houses, the clothes and even the land made me feel like I was there. This is an emotional story with some of the evils of slavery days on a plantation. The outbreak of the yellow fever reminded me of what we are going through with the Covid virus in todays world. I can understand their concerns because now we are facing things that can be detrimental to us if we don’t take precautions.
I loved Cornelia and Carter’s romance even though I could have shook Carter a time or two. Cornelia was a strong southern lady and not scared of hard work. I really loved that she was willing to do anything to take care of her little brother. All the characters were interesting people and I got close to them and couldn’t wait to see how the story ended.
If you like to read Historical Romance I think you will love this book, I did!

Struggles, Forgiveness, Hope
Nell and Carter were denied the future they planned. They must face and overcome a multitude of obstacles for a second chance at a life together.
The rich backstory of each character, historical detail, and location create an intriguing read/listen. I was surprised by some of the secrets revealed and a couple of twists too.
*There are several sensitive subjects in this story relating to the time period. Sexual abuse is alluded to but there are no explicit descriptions. These play an important part of the story and are very well written. It is clear the author cares and has done her research.
