About this listen

Three very different women have been murdered and NYPD Detective Stephanie Chalice wants to know why. Her case begins on the Roosevelt Island tram. The conductor has been shot, but lying next to him is the real mystery: a woman who might appear to have died of natural causes if not for the handwritten note stuffed in her mouth that simply reads "Look back!" When a second woman is found dead with a rag in her mouth and another cryptic note found nearby, Chalice realizes that a psychopath is stalking Manhattan, on the prowl for a very special type of woman. Part of the murderer's twisted game is leaving intentional clues for the police, clues designed not only to taunt, but also to do something much worse. Chalice will uncover startling truths about who she really, but will it help her to discover the killer's real purpose before another woman dies?

Would you consider the audio edition of Don't Close Your Eyes to be better than the print version?

As I haven't read the print version of this book I really can't answer this question. I will say tho that Ms. Schnabelt always puts her everything into a book that she narrates. She makes you feel as though you are right there in the middle of all of the action. Her emotion, pacing and characterizations keep you wanting more.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

While it could have been a "typical" ending to a murder mystery, Mr. Kelter made it seem unique. At first I didn't follow the logic of it, but when I really thought about it, it made sense. Well done Sir.

Any additional comments?

Don't Close Your Eyes may start as your typical police mystery but as the story progresses, you find out that Stephanie is more than typical. You find that she is passionate about her job and her family. Her dedication to solving the case keeps you into the story. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a good 'cop story'.

The story line is like a French braid

The plot is all twisty and with new data added until the case is complete and tied with ribbon. It's a really super mystery, but the author has absolutely no business writing any medical stuff. Yes, I am perfectly qualified to deem this to be so. Enjoy the thrills and chills of the mystery, but pretty much ignore any diagnostic or hospital related nonsense.
On the other hand, he made an excellent choice of audio performer! TS has excellent skills and puts them to good use in interpreting each of the characters and enhancing their depth and personalities.

Mystery book

What made the experience of listening to Don't Close Your Eyes the most enjoyable?

It is a roller coaster ride from beginning until the end and then it explodes, and you are so caught up in the story that you can't stop listening. Stephanie is one heck of a woman and cop. For her to find out about herself, in the end of the book as she did, and still go on to be strong is great. Full of suspense.

I was hooked on this book from chapter one! It is about Stephanie who is a a police detective and has a serial killer in her city that is killing women by suffocating them, and then leaving notes to taunt the police....she is having these frightening dreams also that cause her to go see a psychologist for help...well her doctor refers her to a specialist in dreams and then the story starts to unfold about why this serial killer chose her city....it was very entertaining and I did not want to put this one down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! And I will continue this series!!!

Any additional comments?

Detectives Chalice and Ledo are tasked with finding the killer of 3 women.A madman is killing women and looking for attention...but who from?Teri Schnaubelt portrays Stephanie Chalice perfectly. The only detraction from this story is the snappy comebacks and somewhat teen aged antics of our lead character.
