Publisher's summary

Bobby Newkirk has a lot of school spirit. The good-looking, guitar-playing teenager has taken all the Shadyside High School cheerleaders out on dates, and now he's making his way down a list of the most beautiful girls in the school. At the top of that list are Bree and Samantha Wade, a pair of gorgeous raven-haired twins. Bobby knows that just like all the other girls in school, Bree and Samantha will fall for his easy charm and cool looks. They do, of course. But Bobby soon suspects that one of the twins is planning to kill to keep him all to herself. Unfortunately, he doesn't know which one - and he doesn't have much time to figure it out.

More than any other modern author of young adult fiction, R.L. Stine deserves credit for attracting thousands of reluctant readers to library bookshelves. With believable characters and marvelously creative storylines, his best-selling thrillers have captured the imagination of young people across the nation.

Holds You to the Last Second, Becomes Predictable

I've really been enjoying listening to the Fear Street series on Audible. So many of these stories are classics, in my opinion. This one started out great and at moments, is very thrilling. But the ending, in my opinion, was too predictable. It seemed like there was going to be some mind-bending ending, but ultimately ended up being disappointing.

Don't get me wrong, Stine does a great job making you hate the main character. You don't feel one ounce of sympathy for the guy. The plot and the characters give him several chances to grow, but he doubles-down on being a "pig" each time. So by the end, he gets what he deserves.

I can see a lot of people cheering for the ending of this story, the main character got what they deserved. But at the same time, I thought it was underwhelming. It needed more. The post-ending was even more lackluster, offering one last chance to provide some kind of twist. I was hoping for something that would allow the listener to leave it up to interpretation. But nope. Pretty straight forward revenge plot and then that's it.

If anything, this is a good morality tale of how not to be. And just like most of Stine's work, really well-written.

Super Fun, Dark Teen Novel!

The story straddles the edge of almost going totally into the dark adult realm, but pulls back just enough to keep it teen friendly. I can see how teens would be incredibly interested in this story, because it almost feels as if they'd be listening to something they're not supposed to be.

Frank Muller was and is a master storyteller.

Well written, but depends on the Narrator

Frank Muller does an excellent job with his voice acting in this audio book. Conveying wonderful emotionality into the smug and self centered the thoughts, feelings, and opinions of the protagonist and narrator who is an utter clod. It is hard to convey subtle smugness and over confidence into a reading but Muller does an excellent job. He really does work to give each character a distinctive voice and keeps the fast paced momentum moving along which is hard to do. I found the audio quality excellent with few listening problems. I do plan to look for other books narrated by Frank Muller just on the strength of this reading alone.

The story itself is well written which is good. I was interested to see what would happen even if the main character is a yutz. I found the pacing to be good overall with increasing tension built as Stine conveys how the main character is growing increasingly confused by the story as it progresses. The plan and twist, staples of Stine, all make perfect sense. It is a well plotted teenage thriller with some good tension and interesting moments. This is very much one of the stronger Fear Street novels and in this case everything the characters do makes a lot of sense. I really thought this was a solid little book.

Strong story, good moments, excellent characterization I was pleased with this story.

Not very good

This was not one of my favorites by R.L Stine and I love his books. I've been reading them since the 90s. It was ok and teaching some a lesson can be good. It just falls flat compared to his other books.

So much fun!

I really liked the plot of this story! I thought it was well paced, it kept me guessing, and it had a satisfying ending. The narrator took some time to grow on me but after a while I really enjoyed his style. It’s also full of classic, corny lines like Arnie always shouting “Bobby, you da man!”. Definitely brings on the 90s nostalgia!
