Publisher's summary

From the dusty Great Depression to the far future to the Wild West to the era of big-fin automobiles, soda shops, and double features, as well as dark journey on an icy ocean full of ravenous sharks and a fantastic shipwreck that leads its survivors into a nightmarish Lovecraftian world of monsters and mystery, Joe R. Lansdale returns with a pack of stories for your consumption and enjoyment.

There's even killer machines, a big ole grizzly bear, and entertaining story notes.

Joe R. Lansdale has been writing novels and stories, as well as screenplays and comics, for over 45 years, and this is his latest concoction, encompassing stories informed by a variety of genres, but not quite comfortably fitting into any of them. The reason is simple.

Joe R. Lansdale is his own genre.

Enjoyable Short Stories

Here is some more of Joe's good writing. A total of six short stories. A couple of the stories were just okay, but my favorites were number's one, three and six. Matt Godfrey was okay doing the narrating. There are some very funny one liners in some of the stories. One that comes to mind is from the last story that is called "Everything Sparkles In Hell" when Nat who is a U.S. Marshall is talking about his friend Choctaw who is the best tracker in the territory and who also works for Judge Parker. Nat says about Choctaw "He can track a fish fart underwater and tell you how much it weighs and who his friends are"...I LoL'd with that one.

Joe R. Lansdale is a Great Storyteller

I am a little late to the Lansdale party since I only jumped on recently with the adventures of Hap and Leonard. This came across as a collection of short stories and it is a great illustration of the scope of Lansdale's talents. "Driving to Geronimo's Grave" is a really nice homage to action adventure set in the times after the Great Depression. An estranged Uncle dies.... well even though you kids don't know him, go pick up his body and bring it back with you to bury. Sounds simple and smelly and it was, but so much more of an adventure ensues. These stories don't really belong together, settings and plots differ, but the fact that Lansdale can pull it off makes him worthy of reading/listening to his entire catalog. Just do it.

You Can't Go Wrong With Joe Lansdale

One of the most versatile authors out there, Joe Lansdale never disappoints, and this collection, DRIVING TO GERONIMO'S GRAVE AND OTHER STORIES is no exception.

Everyone will have their favorites, but mine are the title story and "Wrestling Jesus" (even though each story on these pages is a delight).

Matt Godfrey does a great job bringing these stories to life. You always have to give credit when the reading is fantastic.

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed these short stories from Joe R Lansdale. The book was recommended to me and I had never read his works prior and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed these stories. The narrator does great voice work. Overall great listen.

Thoroughly entertaining

I enjoyed most of these stories. The few I didn’t were only because the subject was not interesting to me or maybe just listened to it on the wrong day at the wrong time. Joe R Lansdale is becoming one of my favorite authors and cannot wait to listen / read more from him. Highly recommend.

Variety of interesting and detailed short stories

Well written, imaginative, and sign interesting. The author covers multiple genres with ease and expertise. The details he spends make the stories quite believable. One of the better anthologies I’ve listened to.

6 stories, 3 stars

As with most short story collections, there is some gold and some tin. In this collection, 3 out of 6 were good, and the 3 that didn't make it to gold were pretty awful IMHO. I generally enjoy Joe R. Lansdale's work ( his book, The Thicket, is one of my all time favorite audio books). I don't think this represents his best work ( except for one story, The Projectionist; absolutely brilliant!)

Sour note

I have read several books my this author but when one gets on their political soap
Box then I am done . I listened to the first story which really did not make any sense - then his political statement started before the next short story- had to stop the book at then and delete. I will no longer follow this author - too bad because some of his earlier work was pretty good. My advice: write your book but leave your personal political rant to yourself
