Moved at a nice pace.

Not very realistic, but not a bad story. This was way too short, should have continued with several more chapters.

stilted speaking. no inflection or emotion.

story wasn't bad. But the voice not being part of the story with nuances and warmth it detracted from the overall tale.

Story line holes

The story has holes and jumps, where it seems things are supposed to be mentioned but then they aren’t. Also the characters decisions do not always align with their portrayal or reality of typical people behave, and so the actions mismatch, and ultimately it ends up with a book that needs significant editing. The storyline has a strong foundation if the writing can be cleaned up.

one of the worst books I've listened to

the main character is neurotic and controlling. Who wants to be the hero, but fails at every turn. he keeps saying he wants to save and protect his family. yet fails to do a damn thing. other than stock up on canned goods to protect anybody. when he should act he doesn't. when he shouldn't act he does and always does the wrong thing. the series should be titled how to die in the first month of the apocalypse

Truly Awful

The characters were a mess of catty, whiny, and weak willed, completely annoying caricatures of people. There was not a sympathetic character in the bunch, and I wanted to shake some sense into the main character every single moment, let alone every chapter. I got this book as part of my membership, and I'm STILL upset at how bad it was. The narrator was very dry and lended nothing to the already poor story. My high school English students have written better, and I want my time back.
