Publisher's summary

"I didn't realize how much I would miss grocery shopping until it was gone."

Life was pretty good. The love of Alice's life had proposed, they were proud new homeowners, and she'd just landed a great promotion at work. Things were going to plan.

Well, they were, until the Red Death struck.

Billions dead in a matter of weeks. The survivors are few and far between. No one is safe. Life will never be the same again.

Okay to pass the time

This book wasn’t what I thought it would be. It’s very slow paced. The characters, story, and narrator were okay though. The ending alluded to a possible book 2 but unfortunately this book didn’t setup enough interest or action that makes me anticipate another book.

Couldn't put it down

I loved this book. I really did. I think the publishers description/Summery is accurate. I like that it is in Australia as most of the apococolypse books I have found are based in USA, or Britain. I really loved the concept and really everything about it. Listened to it within two days. Just couldn't stop. I wish there was a second book.

Not a lot hapens

This is an interesting book with not a lot of action or tension. Only one scene of potential violence. It feels very real, but I also got a little bored and just as it seems they might add some strife and tension to the story, it ends. Apparently this is to be one of a series, but I always hate books that end on a cliffhanger and you have to wait months or longer to read the next chapter.

The Main Character is Annoying

I was very annoyed by the characters complete ignorance! They don’t mask up and they don’t social distance, They don’t realize they can syphon gas. They are just so unprepared and dense.

COVID before it was announced

I really enjoyed the story line. The difference in people who prep, who are preppers and those who are neither and the reaction and responses as a result. I am really impressed by the fact that this was released when COVID was 1st announced, therefore written way previously.

It was a good setup…but…

I know everyone has to write series now instead of just one book. It’s annoying but that’s life. This book felt like maybe half of one book. So in other words, it was waaaay too long for what we got. Nothing much happens after the pandemic hits. They just sort of live and talk about future living. There was too much lamenting of their situation and many unnecessary things thrown in there, like a dog being lost in some bushes for a little while. I grew weary. I’m not at all curious as to what happens next.

great concept. annoying delivery

Performance: Narrator is constantly randomly shouting so harshly. "I SHONN MY TORCH".. ouch the ears. Her inflections are extremely mis timed. and seem weird and random. I feel like if I hear "SHONN" one more time I will have to click off this book. Or when she was reading the texts.. Screaming the name. hurt my ears each time.
Story: The main character is a bumbling idiot. Authors seem to think you can't write a survivor book that is exciting, unless the main character is inept. The "underdog" can be fun to root for. but an underdog doesnt have to be a frustrating idiot. Sure a struggle makes things more exciting. But one can struggle and still have SOME brains. This MC has absolutely none. It actually becomes unbelievable that they would survive. Not in the way of "wow they are defying odds!" No I mean truly implausible and silly. i crave for authors to make a mc that isnt obnoxious and foolish. Crying over stupid THINGS. Like mementos. Not using your brains. Never accepting and staying in denial. Wasting food. Being a vegetarian ffs. such a 1st world bs thing.

Anyways i am disappointed. I was hoping for a strong female m.c. not the overdone super sentimental cry baby that cant even help herself survive girl. Her mother isn't so bad thus far. The MC is supposed to be an adult tho and so far her neice is more mature than her. I am halfway thru. idk if I can finish. I am sorry. I am just tired of the helpless thoughtless female m.c.... not all girls are silly fools.
