Publisher's summary

They are an international elite unit created by NATO to carry out missions where no other could hope to succeed. A mix of Seals, Delta Force, British SAS and French, German and Polish SpecOps operators. Led by a former Navy Seal, Lieutenant Abe Talley. This is Echo Six. Even before they finish training a crisis develops that requires their unique and bloody brand of soldiering.

Hostages are about to die, facing execution at the hands of the scourge of the seas - pirates. The objective is inside Somalia. Al Qaeda has taken piracy under its control to fund their worldwide quest for terror and death in the name of Islam. Talley's unit is hastily transferred to a nuclear carrier patrolling the Arabian Sea. Echo Six is to go ashore, kill the pirates and rescue the hostages. Exfiltration will be via the advanced, super-silent Black Hawks of the secretive 160th Aviation Regiment. Yet plans can and often do go wrong. And this time is no exception.

Fighting with an ill-prepared yet expert squad of operatives, Talley has to control the bitter rivalry of his own men as they close with the enemy. An enemy who is well equipped and well prepared for the coming attack. Behind him, his own commanders are riven by political infighting and personal agendas that threaten to tear his unit apart almost before it has got off the ground. And the mission rapidly expands to take in new and larger, more dangerous objectives. Echo Six: Black Ops is an exciting and bloodthirsty story of the fierce, no-quarters fighting of a NATO SpecOps unit.

Great action story!

Where does Echo Six: Black Ops - Raid on Somalia rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I havent listened to much audiobooks, but this one was great. Narrator, Tim Welch, emphasizes the characters' reactions in the story and makes it seem like you are there with them, listening in on their conversations.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot of the story was very well written. Each situation kept me on the edge of my seat, trying to guess what was going to happen next. All these fight scenes are so detailed and the author creates a visual effect for the reader.

Which character – as performed by Tim Welch – was your favorite?

The character that i enjoyed the most was Lieutenant Abe Talley. This character is your typically navy seal that does not take no for an answer. Tim Welch narrates his parts very well and you really get a sense of what the guy is like.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book neither made me laugh or cry. The main thing it did was it kept me interested. I didn't think once to stop the recording because the author gets your attention within the first few pages of the book. It's sad to think that some of this events actually happen in the real world today but that is what makes the story so realistic.

Any additional comments?

Overall, I believe the book was very well written. the author did an awesome job with telling the story. There was no guessing what happened next and that is how he keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I cannot applaud the narrator either. He does a great job when playing the characters. He uses a distinct tone and voice for every different character and it seems like there are multiple people there. This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

Would not recommend

Got thru the firs 3chapters of this book and felt like i was listening to a 12 year old's version of a black ops novel.
Not sure if it was the narrator, the writing (as this is audible) or both. But i had to turn it off.
Have listened to over 80 books the likes of eisler, flynn, thor, greaney. This was just plain bad in comparison.

I'm sorry...

I really hate to say it, but I couldn't listen to any more. Not a fan of the story or the narrator. The plot was terrible and the read left something to be desired.

Nonstop!

military, pirates, action-adventure

Fast paced and engaging military action. The characters are interesting and engaging, the action is nonstop. The premise of an international unit made up of the most skilled (and egotistical) military men from several countries is a big hook, and the writing does not disappoint.
Tim Welch is more than up to the challenge of narration!

Gave It Two Tries

I tried to listen to this book twice and came to the conclusion that I wasted a credit.

The narration sucks, unfortunately; and the story is nowhere near believable. The way everyone speaks is a bit too formal and unrealistic.

Just couldn't make it past the second chapter.

Stop right there!

What would have made Echo Six: Black Ops - Raid on Somalia better?

The best would have been to not published this or any other book in this series.

Would you ever listen to anything by Eric Meyer again?

Well I did get the second book and listen to it. In the hope that it would be better. But no, I did not get any better. It got worse if you can believe that. I will not ever read a book from the self proclaimed author Eric Meyer. If there is a price for worst published book, Mr Meyers won them all with his books.

How could the performance have been better?

How can it have been any worse? The sound quality is horrible, the editing is extremely poor. The narrative is the worst part. To think that Tim got payed for this is unbelievable. The book didn't get better by him screaming throughout the book. He's trying to do some accent in the beginning. Which he gave up, well that was a good thing.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Echo Six: Black Ops - Raid on Somalia?

I would have cut the whole book, and told Meyer to get a jod digging ditches by hand and never try to write ever again.

Any additional comments?

Please don't waste your time on this book, or any other of the books in the series. It will not get any better. I've also read the second book, in the belief that it would get better. I was wrong, so wrong. There is nothing remotely good.

Terrible

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

NARRATION.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

NARRATED bye anyone else.

What didn’t you like about Tim Welch’s performance?

Narration was all monitone and dry.You could tell he was reading with no emotion or character. I have heard 5 th graders that are better then him.

Any additional comments?

I wasted money on this book worst narration i have ever heard. I couldnt even finish thats sad because i have sat thru alot of boring narration but this unbearable.

Fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat!!!!

If you could sum up Echo Six: Black Ops - Raid on Somalia in three words, what would they be?

Fast Paced, Exciting and Adrenaline Rush!

If you’ve listened to books by Eric Meyer before, how does this one compare?

This is the first time I have listened to Eric Meyers, he is an excellent writer. He has a strong narrative voice for all of his characters.

Which character – as performed by Tim Welch – was your favorite?

I enjoyed all of the performances of each character but by far my favorite was Lieutenant Abe Talley. The voice matched the angst that Talley was feeling during the course of the novel.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the moment where Talley finally began to trust Captain Walker, they have a strong relationship. They both support each other even when Talley stops trusting everyone including himself.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed both the narration and the story of Echo Six Black Ops!

Horrible Reading of the Book.

I disliked the way of the switching between characters. Absolutely horrendous to listen to. Very frustrating.
