About this listen

From the bestselling author of Under a Gilded Moon comes the soaring story of an unlikely friendship of three men and one extraordinary woman and the legacy they built—if their own secrets don’t destroy it.

In the midst of World War II, a Tennessee farm boy, a Jewish Cambridge student, and a German POW forge a connection that endures—against all odds.

But now everything that Will Dobbins, Dov Silverberg, and Hans Hessler fought for is at risk as their descendants clash for control of the corporation they founded together. In an attempt to remake its tattered corporate image, the firm hires event planner Hadley Jacks and her sister Kitzie to organize a reunion for the families on St. Simons Island, Georgia, the place that changed all three men’s lives forever.

As Hadley and her sister delve into the friends’ past, they uncover the life of the courageous young woman who links them all together…and the old wounds that could tear everything apart.

Told in dual timelines spanning World War II and the present, Echoes of Us follows the ripple effects of war, the bonds that outlast it, and the hope that ultimately carries us forward.

Critic reviews

“I’m someone who devours big, epic books, and Joy Jordan-Lake’s Echoes of Us takes her readers to the next level. This sweeping dual timeline novel, set in Saint Simons Island, Georgia, during WWII and the present day, has all the jewels that historical fiction lovers crave: love, loss, secrets, sacrifices, insurmountable courage, a strong protagonist ahead of her time, and, of course (my fave)—a richly entangled love story that claws at the heartstrings and spans decades. Masterful, daring, and unputdownable, Jordan-Lake’s gripping new novel soars.”—Lisa Barr, New York Times bestselling author of Woman on Fire

“A thrill of a ride…heartfelt and lyrical prose.”—Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times bestselling author of The Secret Book of Flora Lea

“This epic novel spans back and forth through time culminating in an immersive, affecting tale that echoes of Jeffrey Archer’s Kane and Abel and Kristin Hannah’s The Women. With compelling characters you can’t help but fall for, audacious women braving the skies, and the sacrifices we make for those we love, Jordan-Lake delivers a story that brims with courage and hope. A big, beautiful book I couldn’t put down.”—Rochelle B. Weinstein, bestselling author of What You Do to Me
