Publisher's summary

Libby has been given a powerful gift: to live one life in 1774 colonial Williamsburg and the other in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. When she falls asleep in one life, she wakes up in the other without any time passing. She has one conscious mind but two very different lives and bodies.

In colonial Williamsburg, Libby is a public printer for the House of Burgesses and the royal governor, trying to provide for her family and support the Patriot cause. The man she loves, Henry Montgomery, has his own secrets. As the revolution draws near, both their lives—and any hope of love—are put in jeopardy.

Libby's life in 1914 New York is filled with wealth, drawing-room conversations, and bachelors. But the only work she cares about—women's suffrage—is discouraged, and her mother is intent on marrying her off to an undesirable English marquess. The growing talk of war in Europe further complicates matters and forces her to make sacrifices she never imagined. On her 21st birthday, Libby must choose one path and forfeit the other forever—but how can she possibly choose when she has so much to lose in each life?

Beautiful multi-times historical fiction

I so hope a sequel is in the works! This story interweaves two historic time-frames into one beautiful story. I bought it through Audible for a road trip with my 9 year old daughter and 16 year old son. Even my 16 year old was asking what he missed in the story when I couldn't wait for him to be back in the car to keep listening!

Kind of a YA romance for adults

I like time travel books and I picked this one up because it was of a different type (ie flipping back and forth between timelines each day). However, the characters were too passive for me. One is abused by her mother and can't seem to figure out the way her own timeline (which she has grown up in) works. For example, she can't figure out why her mother is taking her to England right during the London season. Really? Any 14 year old twit in 1914 could figure that out. The author also explains to the readers thru the character in 1774 that she wouldn't be allowed to continue to run a newspaper, but if she lived in 1990's she'd be able to hold any job she wanted. Well, duh....don't we all know that? Tho' guess what? Women in 2022 can't necessarily hold any job they want to (i.e. President of the US, upper management, etc.) I love historical fiction, but this kind of light weight story with syrupy characters is not for me, so I skipped to the end to see which life she chose. (And just in case it matters to you--there are a lot of references to God).

Clever storyline

I am an avid historical fiction reader. This was an Audible listen for me and good for traveling. Although in 2 time periods, the historical information was minimal. This actually seemed more like a YA novel to me.

Absolutely wonderful!

Libby has the same birthmark as her mother, a star over her heart. This is a dual time period book with a twist. Libby is living in the early 1900’s in New York City and in the 1770’s in Williamsburg during the same time. This book was a total delight rich in history in both time periods. The author developed deep characters and kept me very much engaged throughout this book. I can’t wait until the next book in the series!

A heartbreaking yet uplifting story of faith

What more can I say about this novel except…wow!

I held my breath for most of it and experienced a wide range of emotion through each chapter. Gabrielle Meyer put such an unique spin on this split time tale of a young woman caught literally between two worlds. Not time travel but truly living two separate lives that wove together beautiful at the end.

I thought I could see the twists coming and then the rug was pulled from under my feet. I was so thrilled that Williamsburg, Virginia was a setting because I absolutely adored going there.

What an exquisite love letter to the past, the bond of family, and the impossible decisions that we think define us yet God uses to give us a life beyond anything we could dream.

The narration was great too.

Exciting

I loved listening to this book and it was so well written that I have preordered Book 2. One of my favorite narrators is Rachel Botchan. I usually search for her and will get the books she narrates. This was such a wonderful tale of a woman that leads a past life and future life and which one she decides to take I am so excited for book 2.
