Publisher's summary

A New York Times best-selling author and documentary filmmaker presents the definitive biography of Edgar Cayce, the father of the New Age and harbinger of alternative medicine - the mesmerizing story of a simple man with a complex gift.

Edgar Cayce Jr., born in 1877 in rural Kentucky and educated only through the eighth grade, was a man with special powers. Known as the "sleeping prophet", Cayce was an endless source of information. Awake, he had no knowledge of any of the subjects he discussed, but in a trance he prescribed medical treatments, predicted future world events, interpreted past lives (including the life of Jesus Christ), designed innovative technologies, wrote screenplays, spoke in foreign languages, and brought spiritual messages from the "other side." Although he never examined patients and often gave trance readings for people hundreds of miles away, his medical diagnoses were deemed to be correct nearly 90 percent of the time, and his predictions were often uncannily accurate.

The first researcher to have unlimited access to thousands of Cayce's documents, Sidney Kirkpatrick has written a fascinating, definitive biography of a humble man whose psychic work prefigured the New Age movement and the alternative-health movement and brought him a huge following.

Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Gift

This book will blow your mind…more than once. The fact that Cayce talked about leaky gut being the cause of psoriasis 100 years ago is absolutely astonishing. Doctors are just now beginning to understand how a healthy microbiome plays a crucial role in preventing disease and this info is still being debated and only truly accepted by functional medicine practitioners. He also mentioned OMAD (One Meal A Day) as optimal for health and nutrition long before it became currently popular in the longevity community. That and prescribing what is known as a Blue Zone diet shows that this man was a visionary… or had a little metaphysical help. All this makes one wonder what else was he saying that is true? Never before have I heard Christianity woven so well with Eastern religions. Cayce’s “gift” does so with such logical reasoning one wonders why they haven’t seen it before. Get the audiobook/book only if you’re mentally courageous enough to uncover the unknown.

A very thorough account of Edgar Cayce's life

This book was well written and the narrator did an excellent job with the audiobook. It gave an in-depth account of Edgar Cayce's life without being boring or partial. I would highly recommend this if anyone is interested in Cayce's work and background.

Superb biography

I thoroughly enjoyed this biography. It was all around excellent. Mr. Cayce's life was utterly fascinating from start to finish and this account of it was spellbinding. I have so many thoughts to share about the man that I will just hold back here. Instead, I will simply offer a final few comments on this book. It is worth experiencing by any interested party. It's wonderfully written and plotted and is objective. The reader gets to make up their own mind and conclusions about this average man with above average abilities and outcomes. The wonder of the unknown and mysterious is on full display here.

Edgar Cayce revealed

Cayce’s health readings for countless individuals proved prophetic. He was a sleeping prophet because the information and wisdom provided clearly did not come from his own mind and mental abilities. Case in point was his poor management of both his health and financial understanding.

However many around him did profit from both in accordance with the readings and adherence.

I’m not convinced of his many past life reading for his friends and family.

But one thing I do concur is that people do incarnate as a whole group thus interactions and karmas can be worked out in those lifetimes. Rebirth is real and it’s a spiritual crime in my knowledge that it was removed from the Bible making Christianity one of the few major religions in the world to discard this wisdom and knowledge.
