Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. What is Western Civilization? According to Professor Noble, it is "much more than human and political geography," encompassing myriad forms of political and institutional structures - from monarchies to participatory republics - and its own traditions of political discourse. It involves choices about who gets to participate in any given society and the ways in which societies have resolved the tension between individual self-interest and the common good.

Plan Your Next Trip to Japan With This Audiobook
I love visiting Japan, but this audio guide is extremely helpful for anyone who has never been there and doesn't know where to go or how to get around. The author includes several useful tips for planning your trip, understanding the Japanese culture, and how to budget for your trip. I liked the guidance on what seasons to travel to Japan so you can see beautiful landscapes and cultural festivals and events. Pro tip: Avoid going during Golden Week since the majority of the country takes a week-long vacation!
The railway system is one of the best ways to get around the country, so the fact that a chapter was dedicated to that is a tremendous help. It is by far the most efficient way to travel and easier on your pockets. Also, an invaluable guide is about social norms and etiquette, which the Japanese culture takes very seriously. I highly recommend having a listen to this before you plan your next or first trip to Japan!

Great travel strategies
Who wouldn't love an author who shows empathy toward those who have to stick to a budget and avoid unnecessary spending? The recommendations for eating, taking in natural landscapes, and must see attractions were easy to understand. It it was easy to pull more information online confirming the accuracy of attractions listed in the book. I also appreciated the inclusion of simple Japanese phrases in the bonus chapter. The narration was pleasant and easy to follow. This is a great overview for those planning a trip to Japan.
