About this listen

World War I has ended, and the five All-of-a-Kind girls are growing up! The oldest, Ella, is a young lady with dreams of singing and dancing in the theater. But she also thinks of Jules, who is returning from the war, so marriage is in the air, as well. Suddenly, however, Ella is discovered by a Broadway talent scout, and it seems that she will have her chance at a theatrical career after all. Will Ella choose Jules or vaudeville? Here is another charming tale of the warm, caring family that fans have loved for years!

Sydney Taylor grew up among immigrant families on New York City's Lower East Side prior to World War I and wrote the All-of-a-Kind Family series for her daughter, including the All-of-a-Kind Family series: All-of-a-Kind Family, More of All-of-a-Kind Family, All-of-a-Kind Family Downtown, All-of-a-Kind Family Uptown, and Ella of All-of-a-Kind Family.

Suzanne Toren has appeared on and off Broadway and in regional theaters throughout the country. She occasionally appears on television, including in Law and Order, and has recorded hundreds of audiobooks. She was the recipient of the Narrator of the Year Award for her recordings of Talking Books for the Library of Congress and of the TORGI Award from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

The first time I listened to this audio book I didn’t like it. I thought it was too romantic. But after a while I wanted to try it again, and Ioved it. It is a wonderful story about hardships, happiness, and coziness. And learning to do what is right, kind, and helpful.

I really love this audio book

My kids and I listened to the whole series and enjoyed it very much. They told me I had to leave a review for how good it was. The narration by Suzanne Toren is also delightful.

It’s wonderful!

We listened to this whole series when ever we has a chance non stop, and even ended up buying the physical books for our home library. My older son (age 12) enjoyed it and never companied about listing. A great family series and now we recommend Sydney Taylor books to other families who enjoy read-aloud or audiobooks.

It's kind of inappropriate, the only chapter me and my sister liked was chapter two "A Bang Up Time."
