Publisher's summary

This centennial edition of Emily Post’s classic guide to etiquette has been completely rewritten with up-to-date and comprehensive advice on the need-to-know manners, customs, and best practices of today.

For the past one hundred years, Emily Post has been America’s definitive source for how to navigate—and enhance—every social interaction. In an increasingly diverse and intersectional world, the need for a trusted primer on how to put people at ease and treat others with confidence and kindness has never been greater.

Lizzie Post and Daniel Post Senning—the great-great grandchildren of Emily Post and co-presidents of The Emily Post Institute—provide a fully updated and relatable guide. From advice on entertaining, table manners, and using titles and pronouns, to personal and professional communication etiquette, this stylish and essential reference provides thoughtful guidance on how to do it all well. Rooted in a foundation of consideration, respect, and honesty, this edition continues the Post family legacy of upholding traditions while moving forward with the times. The book covers:

  • Etiquette classics like table manners, gift-giving, thank-you notes, greetings and introductions, and everyday conversation
  • How to be a good host and a good guest, from handling invitations and setting yourself up for success to plus-ones and dealing with mishaps
  • Tech etiquette including video meetings, parties and classes, and how to politely handle devices, home security, and AI
  • Managing hard times, from what to say (and what not to say), to the tradition of condolence notes and how to offer support following a death, miscarriage, or tragedy
  • Tipping practices in the age of rideshares, tough times, and ever-prominent payment screens.

This book also includes handy reference guides for each chapter that make it easy to find the Posts’ most searched for content, like a gender-free attire guide, a soup-to-nuts entertaining chart, sample invitations, and more.

With Emily Post's Etiquette, The Centennial Edition you’ll have everything you need to build successful relationships in all aspects of life as you move through your world with confidence and ease.

Worth Every Cent and Minute!

This audiobook is such a delightful read! The writing is very digestible and the voice acting is infectiously enthusiastic. What I appreciate most about this book’s writing is how it portrays etiquette from first principles, returning to those first principles again and again as advice is given for various contexts. That makes this book more than a reference manual of acceptable manners. I left feeling equipped to make my own etiquette choices. I cannot recommend this book enough!

A great book

A wonderful book that I found to be developmental and maturative for a young man coming of age such as myself. I found this book to be highly intelligent and generally entertaining. I found great relation with the work and I further highly recommend this book.

Awesome and humorous narrator and great writing and principles to embed for a more enlightening society.

Chapter Three on saying goodbyes I am sure many people want their mothers to listen to that lol. Thanks for such a great performance and excellent material for anyone at any age and stage in life.

Really helpful guidance, delivered with warmth and good humor

This audiobook was entertaining and informative. I enjoyed the authors’ inclusive, warm, and positive approach. The book provides many examples and sample language to deal with many classic and modern etiquette challenges. There are delightful historical references to previous editions of the book to illustrate how society and etiquette advice has changed (or have not changed) over the years! I've already put some of the guidance from this book into practice. I highly recommend this book if you aim to live more gracefully with your fellow humans.

Makes me want to read the first edition

Over it is a decent etiquette book. It explains how standards of etiquette and manners in society are slipping and how to adjust them accordingly. The only thing that I didn't like was that the book was trying too hard to be overly politically correct in ways that you wouldn't actually run into in real life. It was a bit much and at times made the story cringeworthy to read.

One thing that I thought was really cool was they included excerpts from the originally 1923 edition showing the contrast in how manners have evolved over that last century.

Prefer the original Emily Post. . .

I know we have to upgrade Etiquette books. I gave up and threw in the towel on Chapter 3. I wanted to add to my collection but shouldn’t have to read around transgender, pronouns, etc.. I’m sure Emily Post is looking down extremely disappointed!!!!
