About this listen

It’s been two years since Enna was swept up in a heart-pounding court adventure. Now, having returned to her old life in the forests of Bayern, she is growing restless. When a strange force takes possession of her brother, Liefer, she returns to the capital to seek the help of her friend Isi, Bayern’s princess. But Bayern is tottering on the verge of war with neighboring Tira. When endowed with the terrifying gift that destroyed Liefer, Enna takes herself to war - only to embark on an epic journey of discovery and betrayal that will force her to come of age.

Shannon Hale’s fiery companion to her acclaimed retelling of The Goose Girl is dark, intricate, deeply passionate, and ultimately triumphant. Listeners, whether returning to Bayern or making their first visit, will find themselves enthralled.

Good storyline

I enjoyed the storyline a lot, although it’s not as great as first book in the series; The goose girl. The performance and especially the music, made this difficult to get through for me. I enjoy a audio book when it is just one or two people reading it, without all the bells and whistles. This isn’t gramps and grandmas day where there is no tv and they listen to the “plays” on the radio for entertainment. It ruins the book, in my opinion. I just want to get lost in the story, not get distracted by all the extras.

So good!

Goose Girl had been my favorite book for so long. I've never finished the series until now, and I'm so impressed with Enna Burning! Can't wait for the others.

Awesome

This sequel to the Goose Girl is, if possible, even better than the last! Great for young women and girls!

Amazing book!

Enna burning is amazing book. It begins after Goose Girl and is an adventure from the perspective of Enna. I thought it had a great story line and it was cool to see the story of the kingdom continuing. It has more of a serious mood to it but I really liked the way it tied into the whole series. It has war, adventure, and romance all combined to make a great book. I almost wish there was more about Finn and Razo too but we do get more of that in River Secrets, the 3rd book. The performance was pretty good and a lot of the people did a great job, some of the voices don't always match the mood, but for the most part the performers did well. I would recommend this book to young adults and older because it is slightly darker than the first but there's nothing too serious in the book. This book is for those who like a good fiction book.

darker than the first but very good story

4.5 stars

Okay, this had a slow build, but ultimately, I think it was a very strong story that ended up being a lot darker than the first book. While I would recommend the first book for middle school kids, I would recommend this for older kids, in part because of the darkness. Still, the second half of this book, in particular, was very well written and concluded, and I like it when a book ends well. This book focused on Enna, who was a supporting character in the first book, and in this book, the story focuses on her struggle with the power of fire speech. I found the resolution of the story to be very satisfying and I look forward to the rest of the series!

Great Sequel

This story uses the characters from the first book weaving around a new story line. I felt the performance was not as good as the first book, but still very enjoyable.

The dangers of playing with fire

Goose Girl was worth the read. Forest Born was too. Enna Burning is part of a two book bridge and perhaps suffers from middle book syndrome. Lots of action for sure, but (after I took a detour through Austen and Bronte and came back) I was struck but the flatness of inner depth. In fact, the battle scenes kept bringing to mind Disney's fox Robin Hood; I could not feel the intended drama. As for Enna's descent into wenchdom, unless you have read book one, it would have been difficult to guess that some kind of magic was at play.
