About this listen

Dexter meets Death Wish in this pulse-pounding, relentlessly fast-paced thriller from the author of Bad Parts.

ONE GUN. SIX BULLETS. NO CHOICE.

Ken Fujima, a downtrodden substitute teacher from suburban Pennsylvania, is trying to rebuild his life when his home is broken into by a pair of West Coast assassins. As part of a revenge scheme, they attack his wheelchair-bound father, forcing Ken to intervene.

During the scuffle Ken picks up a mysterious revolver to defend himself. What he soon learns is that the revolver is a cursed yakuza weapon that will remain fused to his hand until he either dies or kills six other people.

Tormented by this gruesome ultimatum, Ken teams up with his estranged brother, a recovering heroin addict, in hopes of targeting drug dealers responsible for recent overdoses among his high school students.

As hours tick away and other murderous opportunities arise, Ken strives to remain moral, but the haunted revolver has other ideas - if he won’t decide who dies, the gun will.

A Solid Supernatural Thriller

As with several other reviews, I have also followed the author's advice on his YT channel. After establishing credibility with me, I purchased the book. Supernatural anything is not really my bailiwick, but I do enjoy the psychological thrillers.
While I expected a different ending, I would be extremely proud of this were my novel.
McNulty writes well, the reader will readily relate to the protagonist, and the supernatural aspect really only relates to the gun in question, sort of like many Asian type horror films where a particular object is cursed.
The narrator can be difficult to handle at first, especially if you are used to Scott Brick, Edoardo Ballerini, and the like. But his pacing and tone fits well with the story. My only criticism is that someone ought to have caught it when he pronounced Wilkes-Barre as, 'Wilkes- Bear.'

A great and entertaining thriller. It had me anxious to get out of work so that I might be able to continue reading it. Hope there are more to come

Another Masterpiece from Good Old Brandon McNulty!

This audio book hits all the right notes. Innovative story, fantastic prose, and the perfect narration to bring the characters to life. McNulty earned his spurs with Bad Parts, and Entry Wounds is a great followup. He packs a punch with a fast-paced yet tight narrative that'll feed you your own guts and leave you begging for seconds.

Great book

A haunted gun is a great idea for a different kind of thriller and the author explores this concept very well. You quickly find yourself thinking about what you would do if you were forced to kill 6 people. I had a great time going through this book and I certainly recommended it.

Engaging from beginning to end

This story kept me interested all the way through, wondering what would happen next. The characters are all put together well, and the plot has some good surprises.

Moral Quandaries Galore

I came across author Brandon McNulty on YouTube as one of his videos popped into my feed. I believe it was "Bad vs Good Plot twists (In Writing)". At the end of the video he plugged his two books. As I enjoy Horror and Thriller books, I thought I would invest in one. I was not disappointed!!!

The premise of this story is of someone picked up this cursed pistol, you had to kill 6 people or kill yourself. The story starts off mid-curse and goes from there. What follows is revenge, murder, mistrust, and family. Mr. McNulty asks what would you do to avenge a loved one? Do you believe in eye for an eye and if you didn't, could you if it was either you or someone else? This book was such a quandary in morality. So many things are presented to the holder of the cursed gun, I couldn't be certain what choice would be made. This book is a delicious morsel of fiction. There was a point where I couldn't stop this book. It was a literary runaway freight train and the breaks were gone.

Very technically competent, if uninspired

I've been a viewer of the author's writing advice YouTube channel for a while now and I've usually found his advice to be very competent. As a way to show my appreciation, I picked up this book and gave it a listen.

I have to say that I found the story to be very competently written and technically well done; however I did not enjoy the book and was mostly frustrated by it. In this way, it reminds me of a lot of high budget films that check off every item on the list of what makes a good movie, but lack the spark that makes it truly good. Entry Wounds has an intriguing concept, fleshed out characters, character arcs, no wasted scenes, good use of foreshadowing and setting up plot twists, and the plot is always twisting and turning in unexpected ways.

Unfortunately I found every character to be annoying and, oftentimes, stupid. This isn't helped by the narrator's performance. This story is full of extremely tense and traumatic moments: people getting shot, threatened at gunpoint, watching loved ones die in front of them, etc. The narrator delivers all of the lines in these moments with a weird "aw golly gee mister" lack of emotion. Most people seemed mildly annoyed or bored when they're threatened at gunpoint or reacting to a loved one being killed.

I think a more dramatically inclined narrator would do a lot to improve this audiobook, but as it is I would give it a weak recommendation if you're just looking to be entertained.

Entry Wounds is a really fun book.

Entry Wounds is a lot of fun. It's bloody and exciting. It also has a some really good dark humor subtly sprinkled throughout. The story itself is also really unique. Part of the fun of this book is the power fantasy the main character finds himself in. A guy who is easily pushed around by his family members as well as his boss, and when he's forced to kill 6 people by a magical gun it brings out a part of him that he didn't know was inside him.

If you are looking for something unique, thrilling, and violent then pick this one up!
