About this listen

A shameful past. A vow to her dead husband. A sinister plot to destroy all she's come to love.

Spain, 1526. Sister Ernestine is desperate for redemption. Wracked with guilt over having tragically caused her spouse's execution, the newly minted nun arrives at St. Francis Abbey to fulfill a promise to deliver secret documents to the brother of her dead husband. But after discovering she has to wait several months for him to return, she fears being stuck in the middle of a region terrorized by the Inquisition.

Pulled into intrigues of the devout community and its residents, Sister Ernestine discovers a French spy has tracked her down, intent on stealing the plans that would alter the European balance of power. And as her old enemy closes in, she must protect the world-changing information from falling into the wrong hands...and survive the rising threat within the abbey's sacred walls.

With the future of Europe at stake, can the grieving woman complete her honor-bound mission before she loses her life?

Ernestine is an intriguing standalone historical fiction novel. If you like well-drawn characters, richly researched settings, then you'll adore Ernestine's story of emotional healing, redemption, and forgiveness.

Never have I been so excited yet so sorry to reach the end of a book. It is a page-turner and leaves the reader wanting more. Kate Reynolds has crafted a deftly written story full of intrigue, impossible situations, and heart-pounding love in this stand-alone book, yet I fervently hope I haven’t read the last of Ernestine. Ms. Reynolds prowess in crafting this tale makes one wonder if she actually lived in the 16th century. It would be easy to believe! Ms. Dockery’s reading in the audio version is superior. She exhibits a command of speech and language that authentically presents the characters who live in this story. The tale seems to be woven out of pure magic, as it is so elegantly written and read. Don’t pass on this one.

Brava Ernestine!

This was a fascinating story filled with life lessons on every turn of the page. Kate Reynolds draws you into the abbey in Grenada and into the Alhambra. For me the story was difficult to step away from. I listened to it late into the night until the final page

The characters are well developed and easy to discern the ones you cheer on and those you pray will fail. Earnestine’s life lessons will find yourself on a rollercoaster of emotions begging for her to choose wisely.

Melina Dockery’s narration brought an already wonderful story to life. Each character’s interpretation and voice was represented as I imagined them.

No matter your favorite genre, this is one story that begs to be read and heard.
