Richard Poe does a great job with the narration of this sci-fi story. The author does a good job with the basic story line, and a slight twist on Roswell. However, there were several times when the dialogue either didn't fit a character or the situation, which seemed odd. Admittedly, the vulgarity of the characters, which doesn't appear until you get into the book, was totally unnecessary and a drag on the story.

Outstanding Performance - Story needs Help

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The performance was steller, and the story not to far fetched to believe. It had no dull spots and was fun to listen to.

A good solid book.

I enjoyed this story very much, wish I could give it a 3.5 but alas... I wish people would be more thoughtful with the way they rate books, when people give 5 star reviews it leaves no room for the truly perfect book, the rare few that are truly life changing. THINK BEFORE YOU LEAVE A REVIEW!!!

5 star ratings are for perfect books!!!!

I liked the story. It held my interest throughout with great action sequences.
I enjoyed the historical tie-ins.
There were some loose ends that were left unaddressed which may be revisited in other adventures...
Richard Poe did a great job with the many characters and for the most part, I had no trouble differentiating one from another.
I may get the second installment of this series to see how the characters progress.

Fun speculative fiction

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Fantastic narration by Poe, and a fascinating ( if not at times somewhat unbelievable ) story arc. It's the mother of all conspiracy theory lovers books/series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Event?

The supporting story for the Roswell Incident is entertaining.

What about Richard Poe’s performance did you like?

Each character comes to life. An award worthy presentation.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Truth!

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this BOT, and urge Audible to upload the entire series IMMEDIATELY!

Outstanding in the desert

One story that absolutely trashes pretenders like the Area 51 series that try to drag it out forever.

Does the Area 51 idea without eternal repetition

This is not too bad. I like the historic background of these investigations, I like the action, I would prefer if people weren’t dying every five seconds, but I guess that’s a requirement for books nowadays and I wish either the writer or the editor would catch mistakes, like when the protagonist first checks into the pawnshop, he puts down his ID card, and never picks it up again. You might think that’s nitpicky, but devils in the details, right? Hopefully they’ll be better editing and proofreading and subsequent box.

Not bad, but there are some

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Moderately entertaining mind candy. Golemon has a banal, overly macho writing style. His characters are one-dimensional stereotypes that offer nothing of interest. He hasn't the foggiest idea how to write women; the few female characters in the book are cliched caricatures of the modern chauvinists' view of modern women.

He also seems not to have the foggiest idea that 'science fiction' begins with 'science'. Any time he talks about science, he makes an utter mess of it, as if he didn't even bother doing any background research on it (not even looking things up on Wikipedia!). He makes a total hash out of neutron bombs—a significant plot point—making them seem as if they're more energetic even than hydrogen bombs (they very much aren't) and frequently commenting on the deadliness of the X-rays and gamma rays they emit—even though what makes neutron bombs deadly are (wait for it) neutrons! He uses scientific plot devices completely inconsistently. For example, the main alien creature at the center of the action is said to be extremely dense, but it behaves as if extremely dense only when a particular plot element needs it and of ordinary density when other plot elements require that. It's just shoddy work! Would that he would have given as much care and consideration to the science aspects of his work as he did the military aspects, which he treats in loving detail that reveals significant research in that arena.

The 'action thriller' aspects of the book are fairly decent, and if all you're looking for is mindless, popcorn-chomping entertainment, then this should work for you. The narrator is quite good, practically vanishing into the background and making the characters (such as they are) come alive. But if you're looking for a book that will leave any kind of lasting impression, move on. In a few weeks, I'll barely remember anything about this book.

Weak scifi – formulaic characters – overly macho
