About this listen

On paper, Bette Robinson's life is good. At 26, she's got a great deal on an apartment in Manhattan, and she's on target to become an associate at the prestigious investment bank where she works with her best friend. Her 80-hour workweeks might keep her from socializing or dating outside her office walls, but she's paying her dues on the well-trod path to wealth and happiness. So when Bette quits her job like the impulsive girl she's never been, she not only shocks her friends and family, she has no idea what to do next.

For months, Bette gets out and about by walking her four-pound dog around her decidedly unglamorous Murray Hill neighborhood. Then she meets Kelly, head of Manhattan's hottest PR and events planning firm, and suddenly Bette has a brand-new job where the primary requirement is to see and be seen.

The work at Kelly & Company takes Bette inside the VIP rooms of the city's most exclusive nightclubs, to parties crowded with celebrities and socialites. Bette learns not to blink at the famous faces, the black Amex cards, the magnums of Cristal, or the ruthless paparazzi. Soon she's dating an infamous playboy who's great for her career but bad for her sanity, and scaring off the one decent guy she meets. Still, as her coworkers repeatedly point out, how can you complain about a job that pays you to party? Bette has to agree, until she begins appearing in a vicious new gossip column. That's when Bette's life on paper takes on a whole new meaning, and she learns the line between her personal and professional lives is invisible.

Good Story.. . . Horrible Narrator

I liked the story line and the characters in this book, but the narrator has a horse voice and seems barely able to finish a sentence because she sounds out of breath. I found it very annoying. I absolutely loved The Devil Wears Prada though, and have listened to it many times. I don't think I would be able to listen to the narrator of this book again.

The Narration was wonderful

This was a fun book, and the narration was wonderful. I've purchased many, many books from this site, but not all of them get a second listen from me, let alone a third. This one did. Eliza Dushku read all the characters believably. She didn't over do any of them, she simply gave a slight twist when needed, and she didn't make me CRINGE like many female narrators do when reading the male parts, thank God. All in all, it was thoroughly enjoyable, and I have NO doubt I'll be listening to it again.

Like a fun audio "chick flick"

I'm so glad I downloaded this audiobook to entertain me on a long drive. (I usually choose non-fiction books but I thought I would try a lighter story this time).

I hoped it would be like "Devil Wears Prada" and it was indeed very similar. The narrator was perfect for the story with her young voice and casual reading. It felt like a friend was telling me all about her adventures at her new and glamorous job.

I sat in my driveway to listen to the last 10 minutes of the story--even though I was tired from my long drive--because I HAD to know how it ended! I recommend this for when you don't want to think too much and just want to be entertained.

Fun, Girly Read

This book was really fun and the narrator did a great job with the material!

Lauren Weisberger's books are 100% chick lit and some of the best of the genre. Eliza Dushku does a great job with the characters and pulls you into the storyline immediately. Her voice is perfect for the story and she makes the book a total pleasure to listen to.

One word...Great!!!

If you loved Devil Wears Prada then you will love this book. I have been bored out of my mind at my new job and this book has made the ever so slow days manageable.

Great and an easy listen.

Ok story ... AWESOME narration.

It's Eliza Dushku's reading that makes this book. In another's voice the story and its heroine might have come off naive and implausible. But Eliza's reading is dead-on, making the listener feel like a friend is confiding in them. It's a fun book perfect for listening with a hot tea on a cold winter's day.

Much better than her first book

I was disappointed after reading the Devil Wears Prada, so I came in with low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised because it is so much better than her first work. The heroine has more depth to her and while she may work in a PR firm, the characters are not as one dimensional and fake as her other book. I finished it in one night and am definitely recommending it to others

Tolerable

When I want chick lit, I want something that doesn't get too emotional. This book fits the bill. Entertaining enough - not my favorite chick lit, but not a bad storyline. There are a couple of lovable characters. The main girl is just like any other main character in chick lit.

My major problem was that Eliza Dushku's narration was distracting and full of (sorry, Eliza fans) bad voice acting. I'd rather a professional voice actor narrate it, as her raspy voice got more and more distracting over time. It made it harder to follow the story - which is saying something, since it's not exactly Shakespeare.

Still, overall, not a waste of money.

Great Chick Lit

I took this one on a road trip and hated that the drived ended before the story, i really enjoyed this one, not nearly as predictable as most chick lit, I will be listening to it again soon!
